Look at the very first episode and you'll notice something. There's no violence and neither does anyone actually die. True, there's a bit of a tussle to get into the TARDIS which I watch through my hands as I find it very alarming (I detect Saward's hand in that scene), but apart from that it's clean, fun and suitable for kids below the age of three. The show sadly lost all of innocence in the remaining three episodes. It became depressing, too adult in its direction. Where was the entertainment for kids? When one of the cave people (I find the term Cave Men rather offensive these days) kills another I was absolutely petrified. It marked the end of the series for me. I cherish An Unearthly Child, but I personally believe the show should have ended there.

I think The War Games was the one where the show's innocence died. I liked that it had war in it but I was very distressed that some of the characters were also hostile to each other and some died, I genuinely wasn't expecting that.
