I've heard people say that before about Netflix. I'm hoping though with the very obvious backlash to woke politics, since Netflix have to rely on the market more than the Beeb, that they might change their tune. Again though it doesn't have to be Netflix. Just anyone to take it out of the Beebs hands and put more money into it. I think that the British are far too precious when it comes to Doctor Who. FFS look at the yanks with their heroes. They embraced a version of Batman played by, and written and directed by British guys! In fact at one point, Batman, Superman and Spider-Man were all played by English guys. If they are okay with that why the hell are we not okay with an American producing DW. Seriously is Genki really saying he'd rather Chinballs than John Carpenter? That's what the never a yank nonsense leads too. Don't even get me started on these people who say no to an American Doctor, but yes to a female Doctor. They are idiots. I'll be honest - I don't really like modern American television - it's not about being precious, it's just not my thing, and I simply can't get into it, especially the Sci Fi/Fantasy stuff. But I like modern British TV Fantasy even less, so fokk it, let the Americans have a go, they can hardly do any worse than Davies, Moffat or Chibnall, can they? I recently read that J. Michael Straczynski wants a shot at producing Who and while I was never a Babylon 5 fan, I really wouldn't mind that (as unlikely as it seems). I'd prefer someone who likes and understands Science Fiction to produce Doctor Who - and not to turn it into a soap opera or a fairy tale ( "For me, Doctor Who literally is a fairy tale. It's not really science fiction. It's not set in space, it's set under your bed." - Steven Moffat). I'm not sure what shows you're talking about, obviously, and at the moment there's nearly 0 things I watch on modern TV, though there have been some good stuff in the last decade. Fringe was generally very good, as was Person of Interest (which starts off as a sort of crime procedural with a high concept but then gets more SF as it goes) and Elementary was just a really entertaining detective show with a great eccentric male lead (Miller would have made a great Doctor actually, obviously not in New Poo). I think prejudice of an American Doctor goes back to 80s/90s stuff with comedy images of the likes of David Hasselhoff as the Doctor lol. And yes if they went that direction it would be hideous. But there's many fine American eccentric character actors who could do it justice. Again, you'd need the right producers and writers, of course, which seems far more of an impossible task than finding an appropriate actor...

I'm the same - the only modern bit of telly I bother with is ' Inside No 9' - and that's mostly because it reminds me of some old and twisted TV series like 'Tales of The Unexpected' or 'Alfred Hitchcock Presents'.

Just completed a little social experiment on Gallifrey Base. As I have a new laptop I thought why not sign in on a new account on GB for a laugh. I decided however to go under a female username. Carlene 12
I wanted to see if being under a female username they'd go easier on me, to prove that they have a soft bigotry of low expectations towards female fans.
Sadly I was proven right. Sure plenty of them still disagreed with me, but I did not get anywhere near the abuse and crap hurled my way that I did under the Burrunjor name. I said all the same things too, but people were more willing to engage with me in a civil discussion. It was an almost normal experience to be honest.
Compared to the remarks I got last time. (I might add I came here this time a lot more confrontational. I must admit that as petty as it sounds, I just wanted to mess with them for a little bit at first. Not troll them, just put forward opinions that to them would be considered trolling LOL. I only picked the name Carlene because it's the name of one the characters I have created. It was only later that I realised it could be used for this.)
When I first came as Burrunjor, I put my points in a mild and fair way. This time I started taking the piss out of Jon Blum and compared the forum to Cartman's safe space song and so on. I still didn't get the bullying back. The you're a sad f*cker that hates women, you're sexually intimidated by Jodie Whittaker, you live with your mother and she makes you fish fingers, you're a racist piece of shit, you're the worst DW fan I've ever encountered on any forum that got hurled my way constantly every time I made a post as Burrunjor. NONE of that this time.
Just goes to show you for all this shit we hear about what a bad time female fans have in fandom, it's so unwelcoming to women. When I was posing as a chick I got it so much easier, and in some cases it was from the same people. Omie who before followed me to NuHive to take the piss for a bit, and called me a nutter, liked some of my posts and thought I made some good points as Carlene ffs! He still disagreed with me about the usual things like Missy, but it wasn't to the same abusive extent.
They did ban me this morning however. It was a post about Missy that I think tipped them off that Carlene and Burrunjor were one and the same. The Culfy arsehole it seems was the one who did a "I WANT TO SPEAK TO THE MANAGER!"
Anybody here ever deal with Culfy? He might actually be the worst. It's either him or Count Alucard. Culfy is just so annoying and cowardly and slimey. He always comes at you with personal insults, mocks you, devotes whole threads to taking the piss, follows you to other threads, and then when you get angry he acts all "why use personal insults against me. You're taking it too seriously."
He is also a total coward who complains about toxic fandom, yet only ever goes after the not my Doctor people. In fact when I brought up the Bowlestrek dog story, his response was that idiot is bringing that story up again, rather than "hmmm you know he's right that it was a shitty thing to do, to ruin someone's life over criticising Jodie Whittaker era Who."
Ah well all Culfy has done is show what a coward he is that he couldn't debate me in a fair way so he had to resort to calling on that lunatic bitch that runs the forum, Masqood or whatever her name is? Either way I've proven that those clowns talk down to women.

Never heard of him. After my time, thankfully. I'm not at all surprised however. We live in a time when men can only have an opinion if it complies with the majority.

Culfy were a knob but Omie was the biggest canute there in my experience. Even before I made my opinions on NuWho obvious, he struck me as an elitist tit who spoke down to other members as if their opinion didn't matter and generally had a ''Rik with a silent P'' vibe about him. Maybe we should have a biggest twat on Gallifrey Base poll LOL. Omie would be among the top 5. I'd say it goes the moderator, Omie, Count Alucard, Culfy, Nullain, all round out my top 5, though I'm sure I am forgetting others. Culfy though is the most hateful in some ways. Omie is a dipshit, but at least he is honest and up front about it. It's the cowardly way that Culfy goes about it that is so horrible. He did the same thing to me on IMDB before I went to Gallifrey Base. He and this other user, Paul Beardsley would always gang up on me and say the most horrible things to me about what a bore I was, how stupid and tedious I was, do entire threads ripping the piss out of me, but whenever I got angry at that treatment they'd both act as though I had crossed the line and was letting the place down. Sadly for a while it worked and I honestly thought I was the unreasonable one. I had no idea I was being bullied. When I finally realised it and stood up to Culfy, the little creep crumbled like all cowards and blocked me, though not before whinning about how mean I was to him at first. The way they both bullied me and the way I took it I think did have an effect on the way I interact with people online. Sometimes I think I maybe get a bit too defensive because I don't want to go through that again. Culfy meanwhile did exactly the same thing on GB. Dogpilling, being able to dish it out but not take it. (He once accused me of thinking it would be okay to watch Christopher Eccelston repeatedly rape Billie Piper and torture her on screen, and then later when I called him a self loathing fanboy who goes along with every fad, he said that I was the one who went too far!) He also has a habit of stalking you on every thread if he thinks he has got you on something and knowing him it's often something tedious. I once told the little c*nt that by saying Classic Who never bothered about its continuity and development he's saying it's badly written. However because he didn't use the exact words badly written he followed me for about 2 weeks to every post I made from Dinosaurs to Amy Winehouse asking "tell me where I said exactly that it was badly written." Best of all when I let him have it as Carlene, rather than do his usual deranged following me around, he said a wimpy "I don't know why you were so vitriolic against me." And then a smug superior. "I don't look down on other people for their opinions." Which hilariously he followed by a post taking the piss out of my old Burrunjor account, two years after I'd last been on there. The worst thing about the little creep is he isn't even an SJW. He is just a coward who jumps with whoever he thinks the majority are and likes to bully the forum outsider. If the forum were like this one he'd probably dogpile on and bully any SJWS in a similar horrible way.

They aren’t worth your time Burrunjor, not then, not now, not ever.

I think the worst GB member was that BowieDoctor idiot. Glad we've seen the last of the fool. Bellend.

Nice, but be careful Zarius if you want to keep posting there. They don't like people sharing their posts, or talking about them outside of GB.

Council of Geeks has now received information about the show...which 'she' doesn't usually get, but since this is a big name 'Tuber who would actually take the time to vet their sources, I figure it was worth brining up
-Sally Wainwright almost secured as showrunner -Production will move away from BBC Wales to Look Point -Show will go on hiatus (could be a number of years because Sally has another series of Gentleman Jack and a Disney + show to produce)

If you're reading this Sally, I don't know who you are LOL, but even I know you're better than DW. The fact that you're a writer who seems to care about things like plot, continuity, consistent characterisation and character development puts you ahead of the hacks who have been running DW for the past 10 years, and the creepy, Omega Man style cult its fandom has become. Please no matter how much cash they shove in your face, just step back from this shit show.
