These are the top five stories of the 1980s according to the most recent stories poll in 2014. I believe this was also the top five in 2009 as well. Androzani is the highest ranked 80s story with Remembrance coming in at second. I'm curious to see which story the Hive rates as the best of this lot. If it's Androzani I'm leaving the internet forever. Remembrance of the Daleks for me even though Fenric is on par with it.

Logopolis and Kinda both look wildly out of place there. Swap them for Decay and Attack though and that's not a bad list otherwise.
I went for Fenric in our poll, though I'd put Decay over it if it was there.

Got to be Remembrance. The perfect Doctor Who story.

I reckon Resurrection should have got the nod over Revelation.

I reckon Resurrection should have got the nod over Revelation. It's certainly less dull than the likes of Kinda or Logopolis. Or indeed Enlightenment for that matter too(even if the plot isn't quite as coherent)

Or indeed Enlightenment for that matter too(even if the plot isn't quite as coherent) I think Enlightenment is slightly better mainly because it's such a creative and unique story. The period costumes and the set design of the ships are particular highlights. It definitely stands out as one of the best stories of that era and for me it belongs in this top ten list. Resurrection isn't as accessible as Enlightenment, but what it does have over it is an effective air of tension. The characters are also more engaging.

I agree, Enlightenment is a lot more solid, tidy and rounded plot-wise, it's feels very much like Letts-era type Who, the plot to Resurrection on the otherhand is more of an untidy convoluted mess, but the story is also a lot more exciting on a purely gritty visceral level, it exudes a far greater sense of menace. I must confess, although Enlightenment is better written, I find Resurrection more entertaining.

Enlightenment is so superior to the turgid mess known as Resurrection it's not funny.

Enlightenment is so superior to the turgid mess known as Resurrection it's not funny. Scriptwise maybe, but it doesn't have as many gruesome deaths or as much action. It's very slap my thigh panto as soon as Lynda Baron starts chewing the scenery with Leee John too, small wonder Fiona Cumming hacked great chunks of those scenes away for the Special Edition. The idea of the Eternals was nice though, they deserved(along with the Mara) another return to the series.
