Does anyone else like stories that are considered rotten by fandom? I like The Underwater Menace, The Dominators, The Time Monster, Warriors of the Deep and Time and the Rani. All of these are supposedly crap and yet I've always enjoyed them. In some instances the least popular adventures seem to be more exciting to me than stories that are considered stone cold classics like Caves of Androzani. I either have bad taste or this fandom really needs to lighten up a bit. Possibly both.

Maybe it's just that all the big popular stories tend to get watched too much and (over)familiarity can start to breed a degree of boredom or even contempt. Whereas watching some of the more neglected stories - neglected because they're perceived to be crappy - can thus be potentially refreshing and surprising or even pleasurably amusing because there's less familiarity. Obviously this also depends on mood at the time. But, let's face it, even TrueWho's lesser stories can still be appreciated in ways that other crappier stuff - of perhaps more recent vintage - simply can't.

I like a lot of stores considered crap by many fans.
The Keys of Marinus, the Sensorites, Planet of Giants, The Macra Terror, The Dominators, the Krotons, the Claws of Axos, the Mutants.
While flawed I felt that all had their qualities that I enjoyed.

Not many folks seem to rate Leisure Hive these days but I must confess that I still quite like it. Certainly, at the time it originally aired, I considered it to be quite stylish and very much a welcome return to a less indulgent and more "serious" Who. Bearing in mind this story was the first to be screened after the previous season gave us the outrageously camp spectacle of the Nimon stalking around in Gary Glitter style boots and generally looking rather ridiculous Of course, with the benefit of hindsight after everything that came later, even that Nimon story looks relatively entertaining now so I quite like that one too anyway!

The Chase, Krotons, Planet Of The Daleks, Horns Of Nimon, Two Doctors and Battlefield all range from enjoyable to misunderstood classic for me and I'd take them over the likes of Dalek Invasion Of Earth, The Daemons, Pyramids Of Mars and Kinda.

To add for your benefit Maxil, I like Season 24. It’s flawed season but has a lot to offer. I love Paradise Towers, I actually listened to novel while in a hotel on holiday. Dragonfire is far better then it’s often given credit for. Time and Rani is a story badly in need of redrafts and reworking but the production team had no time, yet despite that the story still is generally cohesive, the effects for the most part are good and it has the Rani, though her personality has been altered from Mark. Delta and the Bannermen & I were never going to get on though. Chalk and Cheese as they say, but I can see why others would like it.

Delta is lovely. One of the best McCoy stories I'd say.

I loved Delta because it was bonkers and generally different to everything else that came before. Dragonfire I felt was too traditional a story. It's my least favourite McCoy actually although I'd still give it a 5. It's nowhere near as horrible as the Trial rubbish a year earlier. Paradise Towers is fine although I've lost some love for it over the years. Time and the Rani is wonderful. As you said, the production team had no time yet the effects, direction, set design and music are of the highest order. Stylistically it's far better than anything in the Colin Baker era. It's also has superior camerawork to the likes of The Two Doctors.

It's also has superior camerawork to the likes of The Two Doctors. I watched Dragonfire again recently and it was a lot worse than I thought. It wasn't as enjoyable as Delta to be honest. That said however the guys face melting off scared the absolute shit out of me when I was younger. In fact I'd always run out of the room when it was. That's why I fokking hated the media and panel show canutes, because they'd always make out that the modern generation just laughed at DW's effects. Fact is moments like that scared me, a guy born after the original ended, and anyone my age I showed it too! They'd never show that moment from Dragonfire though, only the Myrka like the canutes they were. No, it's not as fun as Delta. It feels like some sort of hangover after that story. The face melting scene is absolutely brilliant though as is Dominic Glynn's score. I think Sophie over acts a tad, but she tones it down considerably in Season 25.

Silver Nemesis gets quite a bashing, but I really enjoy it. It's probably my fourth favourite McCoy story these days. I get why people are so unsatisfied with it, but honestly I just see it as a good old fashioned romp in the countryside with a sorceress, Nazis and the Cybermen. There's also some jazz in there, black magic and a great battle between Ace and the Cybermen. I dig the similarities with Remembrance and the fact that it actually takes place on the 23rd of November (although it's clearly shot in the summer because everyone's dressed for it). To be honest, I couldn't really care less about what fandom thinks about it. I'd rather watch it than the almighty "classic" Genesis of the Daleks that everyone seems to rave about.
