I don't mean in a sexy way LOL. I mean in terms of being friendlier and more laid back?
I'm going to say yes. The Buffy fandom and Xena fandoms are the best two I've been a part of. The Buffy board is tremendous fun and funnily enough, it's not an SJW place.
(Obviously you get many male Buffy and Xena fans, and many female DW fans, but overall I'd say Buffy and Xena is more female dominated as the hero is a woman, and vice versa for DW.
I think that's because female fandoms are not self loathing. Male fandoms due to the stigma about nerdy men, are often so desperate not to be seen as sad, pathetic, losers that they will be a lot less confident in their love for it, and be willing to sell it out. They also tend to be a bit more cult like around someone that they think has made it popular, like RTD and even before him Robert Holmes.
Obviously I like Bob Holmes, but I do get annoyed when people on GB go on about "this is what Robert Holmes said, so this means it has to be right." Why? He's not a f*cking messiah! He was a talented writer, but not everything he thought for the show was right.
Look at his attempt to write the Cybermen? He was extremely f*cking lazy there and didn't bother to do any research and just wrote them as generic robo killers.
Of course this is not to say that you don't get problems in female fandoms. The whole shipping crap is a lot worse among girls than guys, but still overall I think women fans are more laid back and confident.
Imagine if the Doctor had always been a woman. Do you think that female fans would have been so self loathing as to turn her into a guy, just to keep up with the times and not be seen as an old relic.
Paul Cornell is sadly right that female fandoms are better, but it is entirely because of men like him LOL.
