I haven't actually seen Robocop in donkeys years. Well worth watching again I think. It gets better with every viewing. I really need to pick up the Arrow Blu ray at some point. The MGM one doesn't include the theatrical cut which is such a pain.

Terminator is more 80s nostalgia. Robocop is a much funner film though

I've never seen RoboCop, but the original Terminator is one of my favourites. It's like a sci-fi dystopian slasher movie. And it's absolutely the only Terminator film that ever needed to exist. I don't rate Judgment Day at all. It's such a messy sequel, with poor pacing to boot.

This is a huge problem I have with T2 too - it starts out great but the whole Miles Dyson plot slows the thing down hideously and takes the main villain out of the story for far too long. The original is far superior IMO.

The 80s was surely the golden period of science fiction films (along with everything else)
RoboCop The Terminator Back to the Future Back to the Future Part II Blade Runner Aliens The Empire Strikes Back Return of the Jedi Innerspace Spaceballs Predator ET Wrath of Khan (Search and Voyage, too) Short Circuit
I mean, that's not even the definitive list. That's what I could name on the top of my head, but there's probably a load more.

And most of those (if not all of them) I would place above Terminator 2.

And most of those (if not all of them) I would place above Terminator 2. I wish there was some edit of Terminator 2 that cut out the middle desert portion, because it kills the tension. The T-1000 just disappears for a whole chunk of the film.

It gets so languid when its immediate predecessor perfected pacing.

The Terminator is about 105 minutes compared to the runtime of 150 minutes for the new Mad Max movie. Even T2 is about twenty five minutes longer than the first Terminator movie. It honestly doesn't need to be that long.

Films like The Great Escape are structured so flawlessly that I rarely if ever get bored during the near three hour runtime. That wasn't the case The Batman however which I felt was needlessly long. I think some people believe the longer a film is the more epic it is, but that's really true in my experience.
