Which one do posters think is the most crap companion of the 80s?
Block of wood groomed twink Adric? Technobabble lump of uselessness Nyssa? Moaning griping groan Tegan? Dodgy 30 year old in schoolboys outfit Turlough? Big Tits Dumb Yank Peri? Elizabeth Violet Bott in lolita-wear Bonnie Langford? Or dumpy blockhead Ace?
Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, Dogs and Cats, Rodents and Goldfish, Planets and Minerals, your votes if you please.

So Maxill, but Mel.
Mel was created to troll feminists. JNT made her wimpy, stupid and rubbish to wind up feminists who said the show was sexist.
It was stupid thing to do as he just kind of proved their point!
Why can't producers just ignore these morons? Why do they have to sabotage the show either by pandering to them, or smashing the show to bits to troll them?
Either way Mel was more of a parody of Who companions than an actual companion.
I can't find the quote, but I believe JNT's description of Mel prior to casting Bonnie was.
"The type of woman who normally goes on about woman's lib, but who then asks a man to solve all her problems two minutes later."
To be honest we can maybe thank Bonnie for making it more panto. Imagine if it had been played straight with that "characterisation."
Ace meanwhile was the best of the 80s companions by far.

At least Mel did things. She was very loyal to the Doctor and was prepared to traverse a planet full of traps and monsters to get into the Rani's laboratory to rescue the Doctor. She also entered the Matrix to help the Doctor in The Ultimate Foe. I never saw her as the wimpy type, but an endlessly motivated woman with an unbreakable spirit.

Sorry Bonnie!
I just think even the 'terrible trio' work better than her...
