Was just musing about this the other day. While the change pretty much destroyed any connection the Jodie era had with anything before it while being meaningless at the same time, I realised that all it was another sad attempt to return to the RTD era.
Nuwho has been at varying stage of creative bankruptcy for years as we all know, but it just goes to show how badly it has come to rely on Tennent era. Not only do they need to keep reverting every future Doctor into ten, but now it becomes painfully obvious that they cannot right the Doctor as anything but a “lonely god”.
It’s fokking shocking really, the classic ran for 26 seasons, with a constantly changing character yet nuwho has spent 11 years desperately trying to claw back Tentwats era. It makes me laugh when people critic the 80s because I don’t recall anyone trying to creat Tom clones with each of the new Doctors.

Time Turds was truly rotten but I think it was more a case of RTD getting overexcited and not being reined in than a deliberate attempt to trash the old show, like the Timeless Shite is. Has anyone else noticed how having the word Time in the title is a guarantee of an especially bad Nu Who episode? |

I agree with Mott here. As bad as the RTD era may have seemed to some, it was more just RTD doing what he wanted and not caring that much about continuity with the classic era. The later Moff and Chibnall era however are two guys who have actually bought into the bullshit of "in order to do good Doctor Who you have to smash everything that came before." Hence why they have spent more time rewriting the past than in doing anything new.
I suppose though you could say the stupid drums retcon was the beginning of these writers going back and messing with the classic era with the way it rewrote the Masters origins and motivations. For the character of the Master, the drums was in some ways as bad a retcon as the Timeless Children was for the Doctor. IE both characters agency has been taken away. Both characters who were driven by their own ideologies, now one is driven because of drums in his head planted by Rassilon who knew it would drive him crazy and another was just brainwashed by the Time Lords into being their servant.
