I’ve never understood this sort of thing. These people are making zero money for such projects. Are they going to ban children from playing Doctor Who in playgrounds to? FFS do they really think people are going to mistake fan works for real products?
The only reason to ever to this is petty power plays, nothing more.

FFS do they really think people are going to mistake fan works for real products? A precedent was set by CBS and their treatment of high-profie Star Trek fanfilms. You don't see a hell of a lot of them these days. Some of them wound up getting nominated for mainstream awards like the Hugos during Trek's wilderness years.
