Beverly Hills Cop II (1987) Great stuff. Tony Scott brings his hazy Top Gun visuals to Beverly Hills resulting in a slick, stylish 80s action film with the best comedy in the series. This is one of those weird sequels that nobody seems to mention. Even Murphy himself barely talks about the movie despite it being one of the biggest hits of his career as well as being the top box office film of that year. I'm probably a bigger fan of this one than I am the original though both are fast paced and fun. 9/10

Street Fighter (1994) An enjoyable bad movie. I actually haven't seen it for about seven or eight years and it wasn't as bad as I remembered. Kylie Minogue is such a cute f*cker in it. It's difficult not to be enchanted be her performance. She's actually a solid actress. Van Damme is also good although slightly underused. He doesn't kick as much arse as he normally does but that might be down to the PG-13 (or 12) rating. The star performer however is the late Raul Julia who gives it his all despite the fact that he was dying at the time. His "for me, it was a Tuesday" line will forever be iconic. It's a very silly film with watered down fight sequences and some dodgy dialogue, but I don't mind it that much now. 6/10

Watching Let's Scare Jessica To Death. Classic film, very creepy mix of psychological and vampire movie. However the thing that stood out for mee the most was that its leading lady is the absolute spitting image of Ingrid Oliver. I mean really what a shame she never played Ingrid's mother.

Anaconda.
Hilarious B-movie, great fun. I like J-Lo. I know the whole Jenny from the Block thing was cringe personified, but she is actually a really good actress who always puts in a good performance apart from that movie with Ben Affleck LOL.
She's great here as the feisty babe and the monster though ridiculous is one of the scariest killer animals in cinema. What it lacks in terms of realism (which to be fair no killer animal on film has LOL) it makes up for in terms of the fact that it kills its victims in such a grotesque way and the fact that it can attack you on the land and in the water too. When I was a child it scared me in all honesty more than Jaws because it was just so fast and could pop up out of any area. Of course now I can see that Jaws holds up as the better film, but to be fair Anaconda was always made as a silly B-movie and in that respect it holds up just well.
The rest of the cast are mostly good if a little underused. It's a shame Owen Wilson gets killed off so quickly, though his death is legendarily horrifying. It's safe to say getting tortured by big Fam was a lot better than that. (Being tortured by big Fam is a lot better than most things in life to be fair.)
Kari Wuhrer probably gives the best performance in the entire film. Her grief over Owen Wilson's death really feels like it should have been in a much better film it was so well acted LOL. It's a shame her character though is so wimpy and get's such an embarrassing death, being killed by an old man who was tied up because she was so stupid. I like Kari as an actress and she got to play an unbelievably sexy and badass character in another creature feature 8 Legged Freaks (which I definitely need to watch again) but yeah her character in this is very wet. Her 8 Legged Freaks babe would have dealt with the Anaconda in like 2 minutes.
The only bad performance though is Jon Voight. Now I've not seen him in much else, and I hear he is a good actor apart from this, but f*ck me was he awful in this film. I mean don't get me wrong he was still entertaining and hilarious, but yeah probably not in the way he intended. His choice of accent was ridiculous. He sounded like an insane Tommy Wiseau LOL and the bit where he winked at J-Lo after being spat back up by the Anaconda turned what was already a campy film into an outright farce.
Still even with or maybe because of its faults LOL Anaconda is a great laugh and I'd recommend it.

Ah hear it is, my favourite bit in the film. Knew it would have to be uploaded in all its cheesy glory. Again you can see what I mean about how Kari Wuhrer is absolutely excellent here and if there's any genuine horror it comes from her performance, where as Jon Voight is just Tommy Wiseau LOL. That face he makes after saying there's a devil in everyone makes me LOL as does his half arsed tribute to Owen Wilson, made even better by the fact that he got him killed!
Of all the horrible things to happen to Owen Wilson on film (and there are quite a lot, attempted castration by big Fam, being hung, thrown out the window of the tower of London, a bath in lava) this is the worst. I'd much rather have big Fam tie me up and do bad things to me.

Yes the bit where it eats Jon Voight and spits him up is on youtube too. LMFAO.
Jon Voight is an arsehole in real life. He famously disowned his daughter Angelina Jolie because of her support for Palestine. No wonder the Snake spat him back up.

Prisoner of Azkaban is being shown at the cinema again for its 20th anniversary. Was thinking of going to see it, but the price is almost £15! It shouldn't be the same price as a new film. I remember seeing a Bond film a few years ago which was only about £7 or something.

Doing a Bond marathon at the moment. Finished Live and Let Die and From Russia with Love, now watching Dr.No. Can't be bothered with Ncuti's bollocks tonight.

Loved all three. Dr.No is still magical after all these years and From Russia with Love is a great adaptation of my favourite Fleming novel. Watching the films in glorious HD make them even better. Live and Let Die is a hoot too with arguably the hottest Bond girl in Solitaire. Moore wins me over in the first seconds of his appearance with his cool manner and expert quip-making. The voodoo stuff is also a nice touch while George Martin provides the best non John Barry Bond score.

Been listening to the Batman Returns soundtrack again. Absolutely magical. Really everything about the Burtonverse was just phenomenal. The music, the sets, the casting, the darker tone, the creativity. Still pissed off at James Gunn for botching its comeback. I mean I totally understand people thinking "why bring him back in The Flash of all things". I'd much, MUCH rather have had a proper third Burton film. Still by all accounts we were going to get that after The Flash which was only designed to reintroduce Keaton. Also even if you don't think he should have ever come back at all, that's fine. I'm all for leaving something great in the past, but the worst of all options is to bring him back and then kill him and make his life's work pointless which they did thanks to Gunn. Damn James Gunn and his f*cking egomania. I struggle to think of a crappier ending for such an iconic character (apart from New Who.) In fact it may rival the Timeless Children in all honesty. Killed by a third rate supporting villain of another hero (who they beat whilst they were a rookie) as the sidekick of another hero people hate, in a movie that was one of the biggest bombs in cinema history after their first two iconic movies, and that makes all their victories in the first two pointless, and knowing that its only because they were fired by an egomaniac director who openly slated the original movies too. Still let's hope it doesn't tarnish the memory of this. Again annoys me when hacks like James Gunn, RTD, Chibnall, Moffat etc can come along and f*ck up the life's work of people like Burton, Barry Letts and Terry Nation and do it with such enthusiasm and unapologetically. I long for the day when these kinds of characters are public domain and we're not at the mercy of cliquey unprofessional fanboy hacks.

Graduation Day. Track field stars start being picked off at a high school after a girl dies during a race. Mediocre but watchable enough early 80s slasher. Weirdly structured (the girl's older sister is set up as the protagonist but disappears for such long stretches she isn't really and I even thought she might be the killer instead) and slow between kills but the story is interesting enough.

I saw the music for Batman and Batman Returns performed live at the Royal Albert Hall. Absolutely gorgeous stuff. I must confess I prefer Elfman's score for the first film. I used to listen to Batman Returns quite a bit in my teens, but I've sort of lost interest in the soundtrack overall. I think Elliot Goldenthal's work for Forever and B&R is very underrated.
