Both stories by the same writer? Must be something to do with his estate. Another Stef Coburn situation? Given that Banks Stewart passed away 8 years ago, this isn’t possible, I wonder if it could be something to do with Geoffrey Burgon?

I wonder if it could be something to do with Geoffrey Burgon? It's certainly possible. That said, it looks like both serials are still accessible on BritBox and ITVX. Is there a reason these rights issues are exclusive to iPlayer?

Whatever this is about, I just hope it doesn't impact future physical media releases. Robert Banks Stewart's serials are peak Doctor Who, and Seeds in particular is a reasonable contender for the best story the show ever did. Given the prevalence of location footage in both (assuming the 35mm reels survived), it would be tragic for them never to be released on Blu-ray.

This is why I have never bought into stream whole sail like so many did. Yes I'll pay for one or two so long as they have content I'll watch and base line TV is pretty dire these days, but it's no substitute for having your own media collection in some form.
Digital Stream is convenient, right up util it's not. You can watch what every you want, right up until it's taken away from you.

It should be regarded as an alternative to broadcast television, not physical media.

All the Dave stuff of Red Dwarf was removed from the iPlayer several months ago and now they're all back up on there. Hopefully the same will happen with these two serials.

The Seeds of Doom DVD is 26th in television on Amazon at the moment. Zygons is selling well too.

I've never relied on accessing any of the books, music, movies or TV I love via streaming or clouds, or the magical digital Gods of plenty, or whatever. It can be too easily whisked away - or egregiously edited for "sensitivity reasons", or become the victim of a tedious rights issue etc. ...or colourised, and then edited in the most horrendously ham-fisted way possible to appease some clueless blowhard who thinks they own a franchise, just because they made it popular again nearly two decades ago. Anyway, the Doctor Who stories that really matter to me, I have in physical form. So I'm "safe"

They even managed a way to bugger up some of the Blu rays by including the Whoniverse ident on them so you have to see Ncuti's crying face. Thankfully they don't include them on the Collection sets.
