It concerns me how quickly things just disappear off streaming sites.
"Watch EVERY existing Doctor Who story on the iPlayer... except this one, this one, this one, this one and this one"

Both stories by the same writer? Must be something to do with his estate.
Another Stef Coburn situation?

Rights issues apparently.

Dream scenario; we shortly find out that the BBC does not, in fact, own the rights to Doctor Who at all and the entirety of nuWho is the subject of litigation, impounded and seized, with any further broadcast considered an infringement of intellectual property.

This definitive home of Doctor Who isn't working out so far is it? By next year you'll only be able to watch the current stuff. Wait a minute...

"I want to watch The Caves of Androzani"
Sorry, mate. We took that one down. We found the portrayal of Gunrunners a bit insensitive. They're people too, you know"
"I want to watch Remembrance of the Daleks then"
Na sorry. Bit racist.
"But isn't it against racism. It depicts it rather than endorses it"
That's beside the point.
"I want to watch City of Death"
Fraid not. Scarlioni is a bit problematic. Rich = evil. Rather outdated views, eh?"

By next year you'll only be able to watch the current stuff. Wait a minute... “Excellent” is erased from documented history and becomes “Doubleplusgood”. Doctor Who is erased from documented history and- through Russell T Davies’ perceived ingenuity- becomes “unproblematic”.

"I want to watch Remembrance of the Daleks then" Na sorry. Bit racist. It also features a morally ambiguous Doctor. Such characteristics are not prudent for ever fickle modern audiences incapable of thinking reliably. One must become didactic to become unproblematic…

Both stories by the same writer? Must be something to do with his estate. Another Stef Coburn situation? Given that Banks Stewart passed away 8 years ago, this isn’t possible, but I’d laugh if the situation played out like this: “Russell, I’m not having my work associated with your rubbish. Until you explicitly separate my scripts from the faecal matter excreted from your Oxbridge-lobotomised mental “literary” bowels, I demand that you remove them!”

And I had problems with that- with associating high-calibre weaponry with evil.” To be fair that sounds more like if Alex Jones was producing Doctor Who. Remember that time Whovian Feminism tried to use the Doctor as a mascot against the use of fire arms. Very appropriate for a British character who has used guns lots of times to be used for a campaign about an American issue. Mind you it's not like Whovian Feminism has watched or commented on DW in the last 5 years anyway haha.

That’s the crux of my pisstake. Liberalised identity-politics- as a nebulous and poorly defined movement only good for disorientating the population- can easily emulate the authoritarian right when taken to its full conclusion (assuming it doesn’t tacitly work to give them ammunition in the first place). If critiques of racism in Remembrance of the Daleks can be amorphously spun as “problematic”, so can matter-of-fact depictions of gunrunning.
