Series 2 is considered the worst of the RTD era, not just by fans here but by NuWho fans too. Some even consider Series 2 to be the worst series until Whittaker. Were the writers too smug and over confident after the success of Series 1? Did the Rose/Doctor relationship get too annoying? For me, the quality of the stories was really underwhelming. It's crazy to think The Idiot's Latern, Love and Monsters and Fear Her made up three of the last five stories.

Yes to both. An early warning sign of Davies' oversized head.

I agree with Ian, but the Doctor/Rose thing was a particular factor for me. Admittedly, my dislike of Tennant was immediate, (no sooner was 'Barcelona' out of his mouth, I just knew deep down by my crestfallen gut reaction, that it was over) but at least Rose was more bearable with Eccleston. Davies turned her into a bitchy character, and also did a similar disservice to the character of Sarah in his quest for a soap style bitch-fest. I despised Davies long before RTD2. He's a hack, and always has been.

It absolutely is NOT the worst series pre Jodie.
Series 8 and 9 are far worse and the proof of that is that we all still came back after 2, thinking it could be saved, where as after 8 most of us gave up, whilst 10 is probably to be honest on a par with 2 in that both have some really good episodes, some shit episodes and awful companions via Missy and Rose.
That said yes it does represent the worst of the first 7 years and I agree the Doctor and Rose are just too obnoxious and annoying. That fake laugh they do in the Satan Pit is so f*cking cringey. I actually can't watch it.
It's funny because I loved Rose in series 1 for the most part. In Dalek she is one of the best companions, but oh dear god does series 2 f*ck her up. I also think the 10th Doctor comes over as a total sleaze. Leaving aside the lusting after a woman young enough to be his grand daughter, he also cheats on Rose with Madame De Pompadour too. Also him boasting about snogging the Queen of France, ugh.

The best thing of Series 2 is that Series 3 is on the horizon. Once you're finished with 2 you can move on to the delights of Martha, Harry "The Master" Saxon, Human Nature and Blink. Awww, Series 3. I might start sleeping with my DVD of it.

It's like people who say they hate Stacey Solomon. Yeah I really hate that cute woman who is sweet, lovely, bubbly and greets everybody with hugs and is a complete dork. Stop trying to be edgy LOL.

I probably wouldn't change the Cybermen or three of the four episodes they were in. I quite like those ones. The problem is Doomsday which does them dirty and shoves them aside for the Daleks. Doomsday is good telly, but it resigned the Cybermen to secondary foes. The Cybermen have never ever had a finale to themselves. They barely have any stories to themselves and when they do they're often shit.

I'd like to talk about the good things I experienced back in 2006. Firstly, I remember buying these magazines every couple of weeks. I still get nostalgic looking at the covers. I even remember some of the naff gifts they included with it, although the first one did have a decent pencil case. I never collected them that much after Series 2. I have fond memories of the cliffhanger at the end of Rise of the Cybermen. I had to record it off the telly because we went to Pizza Hut that night, but I watched it when I got back. As a naive young kid I thought the Doctor would die. The Cybermen were always great scares for me as a child. I never feared the Daleks, but the Cybermen gave me nightmares. I rather fancied Billie Piper at the time. I never cared about the flaws of her character. I was just content with her beauty (tut tut). It wasn't all bad. I don't look back at Series 2 with the same love and affection as I do with Series 3, but there's still some warming little memories I like to cling on to.

Y'know, over time all the nuWho tat has taken on the distinct tacky hue of outdated boyband merch. Complete with accompanying retrospective embarrassment...
