I watched the show's International Pilot, for which the creators added a 20 minute-long alternate ending where they complete the mystery in case the show wasn't picked up.
I really appreciated those added scenes on this particular viewing. Something about the way the investigation continues into the dead of night, and concludes with that confrontation with BOB in the hospital basement makes it feel like an extremely compelling descent into madness.
Plus, not revealing what the Red Room is, and having it explicitly take place 25 years later gives that sequence an entirely different vibe. It's like Cooper has been kidnapped in his old age by some mysterious cabal
