While I don't like certain aspects of his music, I do think that Murray Gold is a decent composer overall. He's composed many great themes for the new series. I'll always prefer the synth heavy scores of the 80s, but Gold's music is enjoyable enough. It's probably one of the few aspects of NuWho I wouldn't change.

Takes me back to my Uni and college days. Innocent times. To be fair all the hipster guys wanted to be the 11th Doctor in the early 2010s LOL. He was a hipster messiah. Meanwhile in answer to Maxil's question I think Murray Gold overall is a very talented and creative guy. The sheer volume of different songs he was able to put out of such a long period is quite remarkable. However yes sadly some of it can be a bit too loud and jarring. There are pieces that I've found I liked more when listening to them on their own. Still I think my favourite bits from him are probably Martha's theme. Again gives me a real nostalgia trip to 2007 an extremely important year for me personally (as Maxil, Bernard and Ludders know it's when things changed for me in a positive way, and Martha was a bit of a role model being the underdog who proved everybody wrong.) This is Gallifrey is an absolutely beautiful piece of music. It's a shame it was wasted in DW to be honest LOL, as it should have been used in a big film and become iconic. Unlike some of his other work, this goes brilliantly with the scene of Tennant burning the body of the Simm Master. Like I said before I totally get why that must have been a huge deal for kids. I always loved stories where you hoped the villain could be redeemed from Callisto to the Penguin in Batman Returns but ultimately you can't as they are too broken, so I can imagine this similarly having a big effect on the kids who saw this and the music really sells that. Finally even though this is from the Capaldi era that is absolute bullshit, I hate to say the Shepherds Boy music is brilliant and again goes really well with the scene. Fun fact the guy who plays the veil that pursued the Doctor in that story (and Colony Sarf in the first Dalek two parter) Jaime Reid Quarrell is the cousin of my old English teacher. She was my best teacher who really believed in me in 2007 and I later was able to reconnect with her and she's continued to help me through bad times. I had 0 idea that he was her cousin until a few weeks ago. He's a cool guy. He really gets into his roles at conventions, posting about having a drink with his boss after work, when he was helping a cosplayer done up as Davros in a wheelchair get to the bar haha. I also talked with him on twitter a few years back saying that it must have been cool to make Malcolm Tucker his bitch for 4 billion years and he agreed LOL. Whilst that Dalek story wasn't the best Colony Sarf at least was a cool Dalek servant like the Vargas and the Ogrons and Heaven Sent was one of the few good and iconic Capaldi's so he's at least always got the conventions to fall back on.

Yep - loved Matt Smith's theme, Amy's theme too (but I do love S5, so not surprising). Not a fan of all of MG's music, but he did some beauties.
The Shepherd's Boy... well, fantastic music, brilliant episode and astonishing performance from PC...
...which is all part of the reason I feel so sad for PC. He was a great Doctor (IMO), and a life long fan of the show... but unfortunately he landed at the tail end of Moff, when Steven was running on both "guilty", and "out of ideas" (cf. Sherlock).
I kind of feel that episode embodies PC's frustration with what was happening to the show. Punching a wall endlessly, hoping the end result would be positive, but with a lot of pain between now and then.
Sadly, we're still all waiting for the "then".
So. PeterC. A blast of light in the dark - that is how I feel about Heaven Sent, and most of his episodes. Even if they were shoyte, he was usually great.
As for all that followed - basically a bit of modern theatre, compromising a long, loud shart, dropped in a public park, in broad daylight, that the critics stand and clap, while anyone with a brain backs slowly away...

...and I'm sorry if I didn't make this explicitly clear (which I didn't).
I love Matt, I love Karen. I miss them both.
But this is the thing that took me to my knees...
Peter C...
Endlessly punching a wall Endlessly getting apparently nowhere Endlessly but moving forward in tiny steps Endlessly repeating the same mistakes Endlessly injuring yourself, every time you try to make a difference Endlessly being chased by the same f*cking nightmare, every time Endlessly being told you are wrong, endlessly Endlessly missing the person you love, endlessly Endlessly trying to physically redress the balance Endlessly trying to escape your nightmares, endlessly Endlessly trying to live, endlessly Endlessly knowing that how hard you hit, no-one will give a f... until you break yourself Endlessly knowing you are going to experience a lot of pain it you (ever) reach where you want to go Endlessly knowing that when you end up where you think you want to be... it's a really shit conclusion.
That is all.
Oh look! Rocks.
