The polls are back in action- I hope these aren’t boring some members shitless!
I’m voting for the original serial. The architectural design for the Dalek city is a wondrous thing given the budget- the Bauhaus inspired interiors sometimes redolent of a Fritz Lang film- and the score, tension and narrative structure are generally more streamlined. The Daleks themselves benefit from possessing more distinctive and autonomous characters, with each physical attribute (especially the eyestalk movements) given extra attention- something largely absent from subsequent serials- and the antagonists themselves possessing a more calculated and methodical streak than usual. Only the final three 60s Dalek serials- sadly all at least partly missing- nailed these facets as successfully. While the latter half is not as strong as the opening half, the slight decline is not enough to discredit the serial in the slightest.
Dalek Invasion is wonderfully gritty, and I actually believe (unlike some) that the occasionally crude direction renders the serial’s world ever more grimy and lived-in, sometimes invoking a handheld documentary. However- despite being littered with standout moments, either gruelling (the opening suicide) or touching (Susan’s departure, with the accompanying pathos more earned here than in the new series)- it’s not as pioneering or atmospheric as the original, even if it remains more dramatically powerful in concept.
Vote away!

I vote both - I think the Daleks is more original and interesting, but the Dalek Invasion of Earth is better paced and more exciting.

Daleks hands down.
If it were the Cushing films we were voting on, it would be the other way around however.

Dalek Invasion I guess. It's one ep shorter for starters.

The Daleks is visually superior and creepier, but Invasion is slightly more interesting plot wise. I think I'm going to go for the latter.

Ooh, another toughie! The Daleks vs Dalek Invasion of Earth, huh?
Two iconic Dalek stories, both groundbreaking in their own ways. The Daleks introduced the pepperpots and set the tone for their menace. And Dalek Invasion of Earth showed us the Daleks conquering our world, which was mind-blowing at the time.
Hmm...I think I'm gonna have to give the edge to Dalek Invasion of Earth. The scope, the stakes, the imagery of Daleks gliding through London... It's just so epic and unforgettable. But The Daleks is a stone-cold classic too, no doubt.
