A Rwandan-Scottish actor is fine but we can't have a horrible Yank playing the role because... well, reasons. The thing is, British actors have played American heroes and have been very successful. I just think NuWho fans are full of crap to be honest. They preach tolerance and acceptance but foam at the mouth whenever an American is brought up in the conversation.

You say this, but should an American actor actually be cast in the role instead of merely speculated upon, they’d fold in seconds and lap it up as a coup for the programme. Can't disagree with any of that. At this stage, it would take a lot for me to start watching the show again with any sense of... well, enjoyment - but someone who can actually act would be a good start. Ignoring Tenant (which I tend to do a lot), the last two have been f'in' horrible. JW - Wanted to like, but... Bland. Gurns. Says "fam" too much. Lacks any sense that she is an iteration of anything that's gone before. NG - Wanted to like, but... Insultingly camp. Crys. Says "babe" too much. Lacks any sense that he is an iteration of anything that's gone before. Contrast with Matt Smith - was very dubious when he was announced, but "Eleventh Hour" landed it for me, and loved most of his time (despite a dip towards the end). Brilliant actor, got the old/young thing perfectly, plus the fact the character isn't human, but likes humans, and doesn't quite "get" elements of what that means. Wise yet silly. Authoritative yet kind. And so on... Give me an American - or anyone who can actually act - over what we've had recently, any time. |

I think many of us have mentioned an abundance of American character actors who would have made/could still make excellent Doctors, many far more suited to the role than the rollcall of assclowns given it in New Who (and particularly the last two eyerollingly awful choices).
These people are just f*ckwits. Everything actually oldskool British about the character has been utterly removed at this point anyway FFS.

I can only conclude that his story must have been a great traditional DW romp if the fitzroy wankers rejected it.

I was never keen on the idea, but the ball game has changed so much that I wouldn't be opposed to it these days.
End of the day, the writers will f*ck it up whether he's American or otherwise. But in principle, I'd be fine with it. It would depend on who it was.

The problem is this weird mentality that seems stuck in the 80s (all the weirder coming from New Poo fanatics) that American equals David Hasselhoff.
As though there aren't an abundance of quirky, quality US character actors who couldn't play an eccentric alien genius rather more credibly than Pisstaker or Fruity.

It can always get worse with these freaks in charge, It's funny, JB had a Buy 2 tv shows offer on, and I wanted to get the last series of Unforgotten, but couldn't find a second choice I liked enough to take up the offer, as I'd already got everything else. The nearest thing was that Legend of the Sea Devils/Eve of the Daleks double bill. I'm almost went for it because of the Dalek story mainly, but then I remembered how crap Jodie was and I couldn't go through with it.  And yet, if push comes shove and someone put a gun to my head and forced me to make a choice, I'd have to say she was preferable to Nc*nti by 0.00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% |
