Biggest regret of the Tom Baker era? That they didn't make the vampire story (which eventually became State of Decay) when they originally planned to. I like State of Decay, but I would've preferred it in S15 as originally planned. It could've replaced one of the shit ones like Underworld or Invasion of Time. It would also benefit greatly from not having Adric in it. 😛

Other regrets.... Douglas Adams. Adric. The burgundy uniform. You can't beat the ragbag bohemian look of the early Tom Baker stories. Logopolis Did I mention Adric?

(It was the only one of the big three he sadly didn't get to do, Pyramids of Mars = Mummy, Brain of Morbius = Frankenstein etc.) Also I would have LOVED to have seen Leela kick some vampire arse. She'd have been a proto Buffy as well as Xena. However that said I think Romana perhaps allows it lean into the vampire/Time Lord war more and on top of that I think it really elevates that season and fits well with the E-Space arc. Incidentally there is one tiny remnant from Leela as the companion, a bit where Adric throws a knife at the a vampire with pin point accuracy, which was obviously Leela. Adric gets beaten up by Tegan in another story LOL.

I think if it wasn't for State of Decay I'd probably forget about S18 altogether. The only other notable thing is Beevers as Melkur/The Master. The introduction of Adric, Nyssa and Tegan was the final straw for me in many ways. Strangely, I don't mind them so much with Davo, but they didn't seem to fit with Tom. Whatever my opinion of Tom and Lalla, they unmistakably had a great chemistry. And Lalla was far more convincing than her 3 successors.
