Who even cares what people say on that rancid site? It's an absolute cesspit. I'd even take Facebook over it.
I deleted my account a couple of months ago and haven't missed it for a second. It's nothing but SJWs and Neo-Nazis hurling faeces at each other, egged on by an algorithm and monetisation system that incentivise ragebait. Very little insight or entertainment value to be found.
Oh god this is the best analysis of it. I desperately need to quit twitter, but sadly lots of people I keep in touch with for livestreams, voiceover gigs I only keep in touch with via twitter and quite frankly it's easier to talk to people about jobs and such via twitter than other sites. No junk mail, no emails buried under an avalanche etc and sadly unlike facebook people are still more active there. Plus again there are lots of my actual friends on there like Claudia Boleyn, Take Me To Hobbiton and Golden Age Geek etc, who again I know on other sites, but they're not really active on them. (Though I do wish Claudia would get back to youtube. Loved her livestreams.)
Still the amount of times I get dragged into stupid debates on twitter is something I really, really need to fight. It's my own fault really. I'm arrogant enough to think I'm such a good debater I can sway people whose beliefs are so deeply held. Think of the time I wasted on twitter when I could have been doing ANYHING, writing my stories, talking to people I like. Even having a wank LOL would still be more productive.
Still in spite of that I'll see some stupid right winger go on about how Maggie Thatcher was the greatest, about how women only like bad boys or laughing at cat ladies, or how Israel just has to do what it has to, or alternatively I'll see some SJW going on about how the latest crap tv show from Ncuti to the Acolyte changed the world for them by being the first minority led show, or of course the usual Gina Carano stuff or the incel fanboys have destroyed the sci fi genre etc and I'll just feel overwhelmed to tell them why they are wrong and before I know it I'm in deep. It's embarrassing.
What's worse the more you argue with them, the more those kinds of tweets even from people you don't follow pop up in your feed. At one point it was nothing but war of the sexes tweets in my feed, because I told a few how wrong they were. Seeing both men and women come out with such laughable, petty, hateful things about each other like the bear comparison or phrases like high body count etc really did kill your faith in humanity. I felt like I was back in primary school.
I still say Reddit is the worst though. It is toxic to its core, but sadly as Yak pointed out, it's kind of crushed other forums. You used to get a variety of forums on different sites, but then reddit came and monopolized it and allowed the elites to take it over. Shame as sometimes I will want to talk to people about other things.
No offense to you guys LOL, but obviously some times I will want other people to talk to about my interests that you guys don't seem that passionate about or even know about LOL like Xena, or Dinosaurs, or DC or female singers. I mean I can talk about them here and that's great, but yeah I might like to talk with people who are actually interested in them. I'd like someone to know who Alti is and why I want her to torture me haha.
I think the collapse of IMDB forums was a real bad blow to online discussion. Not saying it was perfect, but it was at least more varied and represented the people more. Needless to say it was blocked because the elites couldn't control it. IE the producers of these things, companies like Disney couldn't use them with their bots without it being more obvious, unlike reddit where they can just thumb down or thumb up which influences sheep to do the same.
For instance the Xena reddit page is absolutely disgusting, aside from the Gina thing (which was one of the most disgusting examples of online misogyny I've ever seen), they are made up of narcissistic man hating shallow LGBT activists. Meanwhile the IMDB Xena page was f*cking amazing. Such a variety of opinions and laid back people.
Similarly all the other threads are so f*cking cliquey to the point where you get abuse or set on by about thirty people if you disagree with any received wisdom (that by sheer coincidence always reflects the elites.) I couldn't say I hated the Late Philip J Fry on the Futurama thread without a shit ton coming down on my head, I couldn't say ANYTHING about James Gunn without shit coming down on my head. FFS James Gunn hasn't even released any films in his DC universe, yet he commands a loyalty on reddit from people like someone who created DC comics. I'm sure that has nothing to do with his shills on reddit. Also you know how much I LOVE the Buffy forum, but I've heard that the Buffy reddit page on contrast is as bad as the Xena one. Again you can't say anything positive about Angel on the reddit page without a shit ton of people coming down on your head (man hating seems to be common there.) As for the DW reddit pages? Just the other day I posted that thread about how the Jon Pertwee era had a variety of people working on them politically and I was called a right wing troll,

You guys know that I just hate the inclusion of women in everything. I mean my fiction alone is testosterone driven. I just wish I could bring myself to write a female led thing, and I've always been extremely uncomfortable with the idea of women being stronger than men and in a more dominant position.

Reddit truly is a cancer on the internet. It's where independent thought goes to die. Sadly however whilst I've deleted my account about 5 times LOL. I do always find myself going back if I want a discussion about something, though at least I do keep away from certain pages like the Xena one now.
It's a damn shame, but there needs to be a greater variety of forums and one's where the elites can't get their claws into them.
