Both of these seasons are the complete polar opposite of one another but which gets your pick?
Personally, both of these sit in the middle but I usually opt for 17 mainly due to it being often unfairly maligned. 18's good but, Logopolis is the second worst regeneration episode of the classic series and Leisure Hive is one of the biggest piles of jizz the series produced.

Season 17. Destiny is a favourite of mine and I like City of Death a lot too. Creature isn't so bad either. I do enjoy Season 18, but it isn't one of my favourite JNT seasons.

I like s18 for its austere tome, snazzy new theme tune, cool burgundy outfit for Tom, the haunting, semitone-drop synth scores and the variety of stories. Tho I agree the ones that bookend it aren't the best. S17 has the wonderful City Of Death but has too many clunkers, and the humour was getting a bit OTT at times for me - though Nightmare Of Eden is a guilty pleasure!

17. Aside from Decay 18 is an insomnia cure.

Season 18 wins this for me easily. I like the continuity threads between the stories, more adult approach and higher cerebral level of the stories. Season 18 seems to be better budgeted too.
The most crap story which is probably Meglos is not as crap as Horns Of The Nimon.
Season 17 I've grown a bit more appreciative of in recent years. It's a little twee and a bit too silly with 70's fashion disaster type monsters, but it is more accessible than Season 18 in some regards. "City Of Death" is vastly over-rated, but does have nice production values and a good enough light hearted romp on par with previous stories such a "The Time Warrior".
However, the best stories of Season 18 such as "Warriors Gate", "Keeper of Traken" and "Full Circle" stomp all over Season 17 in terms of atmosphere, direction and thought provoking originality. The production values are just to higher standard.
