Obviously Missy was by far and away the worse character and its not open for debate LOL.
Still who did you think was more personally annoying?
River has been the worst part of the Matt Smith era for me. She is insufferably smug, her story is needlessly convoluted and episodes that revolve around her are by far the worst. I also think Alex Kingston was terribly miscast. She looks uncomfortable and trying too hard. The performance is very mannered and obnoxious, though granted Moffat's writing is AWFUL for the character. His pseudo intellectual pretentiousness like her barbarians speech, his horny crap and his shilling the Doctor as a god, I doubt anyone could make that work.
I'm not sure she is worse than Missy though? Granted I haven't watched any Missy episodes for years, and I certainly have 0 plans too, but everything about that character annoys me.
Still who pisses you off more?

River is smug and a bit annoying, but I don't mind her all that much. Kingston is a good actress. So is Michelle to be fair, but Missy is a warped version of one of Who's greatest creations.

I confess that I've softened up to Riversong. Having rewatched Time of Angels recently, I've kind of gotten over my biggest issues that started with this episode. It's were I felt River was starting to be used to show up the Doctor, but I'd forgotten that the Smith is able to one-up her back, which makes the scene more balanced. It doesn't change the fact that River really dose feel like a precursor to Missy and has many of the same problems but at least in an original character. I'd also allowed my dislike of her cloud over the more likable aspects of the character.
Missy never pissed me off as much a River but I she is the symbol of just how wrong things were going for the show. Again say what you want about River but at last she's an original character, not the gender swapped mockery of an iconic villain. That is sooooo much worse. Worse she's become so liked by people that she's begun to infect the franchise not unlike how Tennant did. Which as I'm shore everyone would agree is not a good thing.

River I am fine with - in fact, I can't think of many stories she was in that I dislike. She was an original character with an unique relationship with the Doctor for various reasons, not least the sequence of their relationship (and it was interesting to see Tenet do something similar a few years back.)
Missy... I like the actress (am a fan of Green Wing) ...but why could they not just make her an original character? Of course, in reality we know the reasons why (sowing the seeds) - but look at the consequences for the show today, as a result. And whenever I see a well established character have their characteristics mixed up to keep a small number of noisy but clueless people happy, it just smacks to me of cowardice and lack of creativity on the part of the writer. Sorry Stevo..

Seems to be a lot more love for River than I thought here. I can see the appeal of the Doctor meeting a companion out of order, but I just think the gimmick was dragged out too long.

For me, River Song was like a female Captain Jack, incredibly cheesy, f*cking annoying, horribly smug and literally no redeeming features whatsoever. She completely ruins whatever story she shoves her big stupid leering face into, bar possibly "Time of Angels".
Missy on the other hand is a whole different pile of cesspit overflowing shit instead, not only is she super annoying, but the fact that she is a retconned bastardised version of a Classic Who character gives her that extra edge in fingers down the blackboard type unbearability.
I could have perhaps handled Missy had she been a future incarnation of the Rani which might have at least made a bit of bloody sense, but a gender swapping Master?
Utter f*cking bullshit.

It's a tough one, but... Missy, as the whole concept of the character was to lay the groundwork for the bastardisation of the lead. She literally existed for no other purpose than to get morons to accept the castration of the title character.

Ugh, where do I even begin with those two insufferable characters?
River Song, with her constant "spoilers" and smug attitude, acting like she's the center of the universe. "Oh, look at me, I'm so mysterious and important!" Please, spare me the eyeroll-inducing antics.
And don't even get me started on Missy. The Master's female regeneration, trying way too hard to be quirky and zany. "I'm so random and unpredictable, aren't I hilarious?" Newsflash, love: you're not charming, you're just annoying.
Both of them are prime examples of Moffat's inability to write compelling female characters without resorting to tired tropes and obnoxious personalities. They're nothing more than shallow attempts at creating "strong women" that fall flat on their faces.
Give me a break from their constant screen-hogging and let the Doctor actually shine for once!
In conclusion, they're both equally insufferable, and the show would be vastly improved without their grating presence.

Hmmm.... kidney stones or gallstones, which is worse? "Whilst it may be true to say that Jitterbugs marks an improvement over the other Twentieth Century Fox Laurel and Hardy films, it is rather like being asked whether one prefers diarrhoea or leprosy. One may be preferable to the other but neither is very much fun..." Randy Skretvedt.
