This is a subject I don't think we've talked about that much on here, but, if the ratings had been better stateside at the time, how would a TV series made off the back of it have differed from what we ended up with thanks to The Fitzroy Tavern trio - and how would it have differed from the film itself, for that matter? Discuss!

I'm not sure. I can't imagine it being nearly as smug and pretentious as the show we actually got.

Undoubtedly would've been better, partly because of McGann, and partly because Identity Politics wasn't quite as firmly rooted back then. But it still would've been deeply flawed, pandering as it was to the American market, and having the Doctor being half human is the perfect excuse for romance/snogging. So yeah, probably still shit, but not as shit. Well it couldn't possibly be. Could it? I mean, no Tennant for a start. That makes it less shit right there.

I'm inclined to agree with Ludders - it may not have been quite as shit as New Who (no RTD for one thing) but it would still have been something very different and probably not to most of our tastes. Why they can't just make the show properly I don't know. If it really "wouldn't work today" then leave it in peace and go make something f*cking else.

I wouldn't have minded the Leeky Bible as much as New Who as it was a remake/reboot and therefore no matter what stupid changes took place it wouldn't have f*cked up the original.
For instance people wouldn't have had to write down the Master and Doctor were always brothers because of this show (though ironically that was always the intention, it just never happened due to Roger's death.)
