In both old and new who to past stories?
I'll start with this. In Planet of the Daleks they famously use a film Dalek prop for the Dalek Supreme (which was a huge deal to me as a kid, but is kind of rendered nothing by this being the default Dalek design of the revival LOL.)
Still what nobody ever comments on, even tv tropes, wikipedia, books is that they play the Cushing Dalek theme when it first appears?
Listen.
Meanwhile in New Who one I've noticed that never gets commented on is the way they recreate the ending of Survival in Last of the Time Lords. On the valiant when Simm is about to detonate the device and then Tennant grabs him and they teleport to the planet below, it's EXACTLY like Ainely and McCoy.
In both cases they are suddenly teleported to a desolate landscape, on a world that's about to burn, with the Master being the looney who doesn't care that they both go with it (until the Doctor covers his bluff.) Again though I never see any critics point out the parallels. Everybody seems to have missed it.
Can anyone think of any more?

When the Doctor questions the Meep in The Star Beast, he puts on a barrister's wig, same as in The Stones of Blood. I appreciated the nod to a lesser known story, and the fact that the script doesn't draw attention to it.
Stylistically, the first half of Smile is very reminiscent of several Troughton stories (The Wheel in Space comes to mind), where the Doctor and companion wander around entirely on their own and slowly learn what's happened before they meet anyone.
The Doctor is mistakenly almost given the position of caretaker of Coal Hill School in Remembrance of the Daleks, and finally gets the job in The Caretaker.

Oh didn't notice that one in the Caretaker. I didn't like that story, but that is quite a funny homage.
