I quite like The Visitation and I think it's one of the best Saward scripts. I enjoy when Doctor Who does something different and surreal, but there's nothing wrong with a traditional romp every once and a while. The location filming looks very good and the Terileptils are some of my favourite original villains from the 1980s. The highlight is Mace though, a typically well rounded and memorable Saward character who lights up every scene he's in.

Love the Visitation too. Mace is hilarious. He's like Vyvian Stanshall and Rik Mayall rolled into one he is so deliciously posh and eccentric in a way that only an Englishman can be haha.
Funny thing is that Mace I believe was a character Saward originated in radio plays before he wrote for DW. He was someone who investigated strange, paranormal occurrences, making the Visitation a crossover story in a way.

The King's Demons is a cozy, fun runaround. There's nothing terribly wrong with it. I'll happily take it over the usual overlit plasticky sets from that era. I don't mind the Master being a more low-key villain than usual. It's still a dignified portrayal of the character. I see it as him sort of relaxing and doing a less demanding scheme for a change, almost like a holiday.
I'm also very fond of Planet of Fire. The more depressed and cynical the Fifth Doctor becomes, the more interesting and magnetic Davison's portrayal is, and he's at his best here. I really like the dynamic that develops between him and Peri, and I also think he and Turlough work fantastically on their own. It's another fun story for Anthony Ainley's Master.

I like Visitation but I'm not sure I'd call it underrated. Most fans seem to love it (at least real classic fans). I'm not big on the era so it's a stretch to find anything I'd call underrated. Mm... Terminus maybe? Everyone hates on it and calls it boring but I always found it interesting. Not enough bangs and flashes for the plebs no doubt.

Nyssa only needed to take off a few more bits of clothing, but alas we don't get any nudity. That f*cking Mary Whitehouse is to blame!

I wonder what Mary Whitehouse would think of the new season 1. She'd probably love it, actually. Ironically, with all Davies bangs on about "making real progress" or whatever, he's still too much of a BBC tool to dare show blood, any real violence or threatening moments onscreen.

I don't really know how the Davo stories are rated apart from Caves, so I'll use this as an excuse to rank them. Resurrection of the Daleks The Five Doctors Caves of Androzani The Awakening Enlightenment Mawdryn Undead Terminus The Visitation Time-Flight Kinda Snakedance Frontios Earthshock Black Orchid Planet of Fire Warriors of the Deep Arc of Infinity Four to Doomsday Castrovalva The King's Demons

That's what made it so triumphant

Agreed completely that DW has lost its teeth and shouldn't be afraid to kill people again, but to be fair Mary Whitehouse would hate it for all the gay stuff.
