Which was better or the least disappointing for you? I like The Giggle more than Day of the Doctor, but a lot of the episodes in general have the same problem in that they just don't feel all that special. Wild Blue Yonder would have worked as the second episode of a series, but doesn't quite cut it as an anniversary story. Day of the Doctor has Tom Baker, the Zygons, a number of reference to the old show and archive footage of the classic actors, but the story itself feels a bit thin and to be honest there's more service paid to the new series than TruWho.

No contest at all for me. 50th wasn't faultless, by a long way, but Tom at the end... I love that man, and just his voice before his reveal took the whole thing to another level. Although it was an empty hug really, wasn't it..? The story itself... a huge missed opportunity, especially given the build up. When it turns out I enjoyed that Totters Lane trailer so much more than the actual episode - what does that say? Matt was great, JH was great, Tom was great, David was... there too... but everything else... not so much. All that said, I could still watch it again today. The latest crop, not so sure. At least not without a lot of alcohol...

I think it was ultimately a smarter choice to only have one special, to concentrate the entire event. Not to mention writing a story that feels appropriate to the occasion. I enjoyed a lot about the 60th, but it was basically a compressed Tennant season whereas Day of the Doctor feels absolutely nothing like the rest of the Matt Smith era nor is it related to any of the ongoing storylines barring a brief mention of Trenzalore. It works as a standalone viewing, just like the Five Doctors.

Can't really remember Day of the Doctor apart from Tom's appearance. If you asked me what happened I wouldn't have a clue. It's all a Day of the Doctor, this of the Doctor, that of the Doctor to me around that time. But the 60th specials were utter wank, so it wins by default.

Can't we just watch The Five Doctors instead?

Can't we just watch The Five Doctors instead? Yes please. And Three Doctors. Have to pass on Two Doctors though.

Can't we just watch The Five Doctors instead? Love the Five Doctors. Happy times. But I often wonder what would have happened if Tom had said "yes"... Even better? Probably. Somehow worse? Probably not. We'll never (sadly, IMO) know. But I love it as it is.

Only loser JNT bashing snobs hate The Five Doctors. It's as good a celebration as you could possibly ask for.

Four Doctors in the same story is pretty insane yeah. Doubt we'll see the likes of it again
Edit: And no Maxil, Power of the Doctor does not count. Those were essentially cameos filmed on a greenscreen in a tiny soundstage. Saying that 5 Doctors featured in that story would be tantamount to saying that Tom Baker legitimately appeared in T5D

Probably not. We'll never (sadly, IMO) know. But I love it as it is. I adore the story as it is, but the match ups might have been better had Tom done it. Basically it would have gone like this. To be fair not all of these were down to Tom pulling out, other actors were unavailable too, but still this was the original plan for Terrance Dicks version. Jon Pertwee and Jo and the Brig. (Later just the Brig when they couldn't get Katy back from Australia.) Troughton and Jamie. Tom and Liz Sladen. Obviously 1 and Susan like before. Honestly whilst I didn't mind the match ups they had and you could say in some ways it was better as we got to see pairings that were legit, but perhaps underrated (like Sarah and Jon, and the Brig and Troughton etc.) Seeing all those iconic duos in one story would have been amazing. That said however, according to some sources, it would have been about Tom and there would have been a sub plot of Tom's Doctor going evil for a while, which honestly I wouldn't have liked. To his credit Tom for once reportedly didn't like the greater focus on his Doctor, stating it was an insult to the current Doc and that he thought it would be too soon after he left. Really the only thing I'd change about the Five Doctors is I so wish they had included that kickass Auton scene. Apparently Sarah was to have landed in a small village where Mannequins would have come to life and Jon would have rescued her in his car as the Autons shot at them. Ultimately it was just too expensive so they went with her falling down the cliff. Not only would the Auton scene have been really cool, but the cliff top bit is the worst moment in it LOL. Poor Liz Sladen tries her best to make it work, but when you don't have an actual cliff to fall down what can you do?
