Now that Season 1/Series 14 is done and "dusted" (Get it? No? Fine) it's easy to judge just where Ncuti's first series ranks among the turds. It's easily the worst series if you don't count the Chibnall era. Not only is the lead woefully miscast, but there's no real sense of energy. There were flashes of brilliance in Legend and 73 Yards, but stuff like Space Babies, Empire of Death and Rogue are bottom of the barrel stuff.

Didn't watch almost any of it and why would I?
It sound like a show made by an out of touch, pseudo fan on an ideological, ego trip, for an audience that doesn't exist outside if circle jerk forums, that takes inspiration from the most poisonous treads that currently eat away at modern wester fiction & pop-culture.
It's the tv equivalent of a toxic waste dump deliberately put under a school.

Easily as bad. Hard to say whether it's actually worse than Chib's output. At the moment, it feels worse because it's still fresh shit, but in the fullness of time, I'll probably remember it as... well it's type 6 vs type 7 on the bowel chart really.

I agree with Ludders this shit just seems worse because it is fresher. I have never rewatched any Jodie episodes and have 0 intention of doing so, so I am going back years now to try and remember anything about them. All I can remember are a few cringey scenes of her going "EEEEIIIII I'M SOCIALLY AWKWARD" and her hilarious pain acting when being tortured that managed to exceed Jon Pertwee's in terms of ridiculousness.
I will say though that I've never seen such a lazy, barely thought out series as this. It's quite remarkable. There were barely any proper villains in it the plots were so half cooked, and those that were had nothing original about them, no plans that made sense and were beaten in ways that were barely thought out or just flat out illogical.
Like why does the vortex kill Sutekh now and not before? Why didn't he use his mind powers when Ruby wrapped a rope around his neck? Why was the Doctors boyfriend able to push Ruby out of the field those stupid bird people were trapped in? Why are there all of these supernatural creatures? How was the fairy trap able to kill the Doctor?
Basic questions that even a child would ask, and there's not even an attempt to answer them. Even by RTD's standards it's bad. Take a look at the season 1 finale, which you know I think is overrated. Even with all the RTD campy bullshit, he still goes out of his way to explain things like why the Emperor has been waiting for so long, why it took him so many years to build up a new army, why whoever teleported the Doctor didn't just kill him, why their weapons don't work against the Daleks, even Bad Wolf, as deux machina as it is, holds together. With this again there's just no attempt to explain things like Sutekh clinging to the TARDIS and waiting for some reason for 1000000000s of years or why a rope can restrain him.
Jodie's was ultimately more damaging to the brand it must be said. Of course this series was lucky in that respect in that it aired in a time when nobody cared anymore, but even if it had aired in Jodie's time I don't think it would have done quite as much damage.
It kind of annoys me the way that the previous eras always get away with it. Capaldi's era was as low as DW got. Missy was an absolute travesty that should have driven every single even passing classic era fan away with disgust that they would treat the Master that way, but then Jodie comes along and because she actually manages to be even worse, or again is at least fresh in her mind, even anti woke fans think "Capaldi wasn't that bad as at least he wasn't her."
Similarly now that Jodie is gone and Ncuti's awfulness is fresh in our minds, people are actually starting to think "maybe she wasn't that bad."
Of course some people will say "you always say that about every new Doctor" but I don't. I remember being thrilled with Matt because he was such a return to form and really looking forward to Capaldi.

He could tell Martha was a bloody clone in The Poison Sky! Such trash writing.

Also the dance karate bit, apparently the Doctor now has devices that can program fighting skills into someone to the point where they can overpower aliens capable of ripping people apart, despite being a teenager. Gee why hasn't he ever used those before. Same way Tennant's sonic can create forcefields. Don't introduce these things.

I'd also like to say that even in that respect RTD was more careful in the past. As much as I loathe The Christmas Invasion at the very least him regrowing his hand is given a proper explanation as to why he hasn't ever done it before, and why he can't use that power again just to get out of sticky situations. If it were today, RTD wouldn't bother to throw in the 13 hour regeneration cycle bit.
