"Doctor Who has always been gay", meanwhile all the cited examples are from extremely recently. It was never explicitly stated or even implied that Time-Lords could change their gender until 2014. Oliver Harper first appeared in 2011. Liz Shaw was retconned as bisexual in 2021. Adric was retconned as bisexual in 2016 in a BF Short Trips entry, whose canonicity is dubious. Tegan and Nyssa were retconned as bisexual in 2020. And so on. This is a bad faith video, definitely redolent of "we've always been at war with EastAsia".
It also feels somewhat disrespectful to retcon Liz as LGBT when Caroline John, who's been dead over a decade, showed no inclination toward it. Maybe I'm overthinking it but it leaves a sour taste in my mouth for whatever reason. It would make more sense with a character like Harry whose actor was actually bisexual.

100 percent spot on. Can I ask, what is wrong with these millennia, gen x fans? Why are they so narcissistic they have to take something over completely? Why can't they actually like it for the identity it has?
I won't deny characters you can relate to can work. When I was in my 20s I could relate to Fry somewhat, being a childish slacker, but I also like the Doctor for being an old, asexual, dusty, grandfatherly character, Spider-Man for being a mopey teenager, Xena for being a big firey, unstoppable female force LOL. Refusing to ever look at characters that don't 100 percent represent you is a boring way to go through life.
Again what makes it funny is that's what they accuse us of. Never mind 1984 that's taken from the Nazis playbook of "Accuse others of what you are guilty of."

"Hey the Doctor is gay now just like meeeeee oh my gaaaawwwwwwwwwwd" Again I get that, but honestly it's still narcissistic when you have to crowbarr it into every character. I do think though this was inevitable when New Who started to make the Doctor the centre of everything. Growing up I never even cared much about the Doctor LOL. I cared more about the places he visited, the monsters etc. He was really more of a tool to get you to cool places, which is why he suited being mysterious. As soon as they made it all about him and his love life etc. It was inevitable this shit was going to happen.

I've never known a fandom more obsessed with sexuality in a show. Is it so bigoted to want a series that just focuses on an alien who travels through time and fights against evil? That approach seemed to work for 26 years.

Disgusting individuals. Like I just said, the sooner New Poo is put out to pasture and takes "Fans" like that with it the better.

I’m a fan of the purist, Charles Dickens-style of characterisation, where looks, accent, appearance and personality are all vital. The more we have this ‘anyone can be anything’ multiverse-type nonsense the more it’s damaged the quality of ongoing franchises.
Next thing they’ll be making James Bond dead and the previously grandfatherly Q gay!

That approach seemed to work for 26 years. The worst thing was when the same fans got obsessed with the story arcs, as well as everyone being gay and people of colour. That was when any continuity got permanently wrecked! I miss the days of strong stand-alone stories too…
