Rest in Peace. 60 years later, I still consider him among the best the show ever had.

Great actor and an even better man. He'll be missed. 99 is a superb age, though!
RIP.

Great actor and an even better man. He'll be missed. 99 is a superb age, though! RIP. I intuitively assumed he’d parallel Kirk Douglas and live to 100- but yes, 99 is an excellent age. RIP. I’m somewhat tempted to watch an early Hartnell story now.

Awww no really sad news. By far one of the greatest companions of them all and what a life he lived.

One of the most important figures in the shows history. You are in a show with a ridiculous premise, take it seriously. All the best companions followed on from that example. Wonderful we had him about till the age of 99. RIP

He was my favourite companion, and brought so much dignity and moral courage to the part. Ian is arguably the show's original hero.

Very sad news. RIP. Another piece of the real show gone forever. What did Gatiss say a while back, "A great and terrible silence rolling over the whole thing." They'll all be gone soon.

Sad, but a great innings and a wonderful legacy. Loved Ian and Barbara from the moment I first saw them. For me, those characters are inseparable.

They were huge favourites amongst younger folk during the peak days of the Twitch marathon in 2017.
