He makes a great point here. Doctor Who has always been above kitchen-sink squalor, yet that's all it seems to revolve around nowadays: political issues, social justice, petty human quibbles that will be forgotten tomorrow. The Doctor should be saving the universe every Saturday, not ranting about immigrants or plastic bottles in the ocean. We have plenty enough dour BBC dramas and documentaries for that. I guess we are just not permitted pure escapism anymore, which is sad because this used to be the show I'd watch when I wanted to get away from the world around me. I don't want to be reminded of my inadequacies when I put on Doctor Who. I don't want my cultural deficits shoved in my face. Now every time I tune into an episode I'm just thinking "oh yeah all the straight white guys are dead or useless, this brown woman is gonna save the day" or "this gay character will be killed off within five minutes without even giving his name because the creators of this programme only care about token representation" or "these people are acting, they aren't convincing in their roles, in addition to that they f*cking hate me and would be glad to see me dead". I am so f*cking done. I hope Russell T. Davies gets the sack and I hope Ncuti Gatwa never works again because his performance is so appalling.
