If you're a member and contributor of r/DoctorWho or r/Gallifrey, you're not a Doctor Who fan

Those subs are populated by the absolute scum of the earth. Identity poltics-obsessed, brand-worshipping cultists. They're not quite as dreadful as Gallifrey Base, but heading in that direction. It was my desire to find a less cancerous alternative to those shitholes that led to my discovering The Hive in 2018.

It's just all the usual "Doctor Who has always been political" crap. f*cking yawn. Even most hippie leftists aren't convinced by this shitshow.

I just cannot get my head round the brand cultists. It legit does my head in. Staying rabidly loyal to garbage that insults the thing it's pretending to be and the audience it openly hates.

I don't even bother engaging with that bullshit anymore. The overwhelming majority of those posting it are doing so in bad faith. It's not a sincerely held opinion. They deliberately lie in the hope that the credulous will lap it up and the discerning will get so tired of having to debunk the same nonsense time and time again that they give up and walk away. They know that the mere presence or absence of political themes isn't the issue. They know that Doctor Who has never been and was never intended to become a militantly one-sided propaganda vehicle for a highly divisive and contested ideology. It's all gaslighting, and they know exactly what they're doing.

Well the penny has finally dropped for said people given the latest viewing figures. Some are in denial but other are waking up to the fact that despite their echo chambers, most people think it's shite.
The real funny ones are those parateing all the old shite about 80s Who and even saying Grade was right to cancel it.

80s Who is used as a scapegoat in order to deflect criticism away from the current era. It always has been. Some people actually think the McCoy era is worse than this stuff.

I had one bellend on YT telling me it was still more successful as it had a higher chart position despite having half the number of people watching it. What a bunch of delusional, pathetic asswipes.

And yet the population is bigger than ever? Sure, TV as a medium is dying, but a lot of that is down to the utter dreck the BBC are putting out that no one wants to watch. People would do anything else than watch Doctor Who or shit like Black Ops.

I have it on good authority that this is the initiation ceremony for any man who wants to be part of DW fandom these days.

If you're a member and contributor of r/DoctorWho or r/Gallifrey, you're not a Doctor Who fan Stumbled on this under the question of which social media sites are worst for your mental health. "Twitter’s pretty bad, but Reddit wins hands down. Mods are twisted bullies and losers. They have too much authority. Reddit perpetuates tribalism, unhinged behavior and paranoia. People read your previous comments to use what you said 30 years ago as a weapon against you. This creates a very toxic environment. Anonymity doesn’t help either."
I think he summed it up pretty well. I'm trying to cut back on using social media other than this and other places I have friends. Honestly I think they're bad for me, not because they are upsetting, but because they kind of make me a bit egotistical LOL. The people on some of these sites, tribal idiots from all directions can't help but make me feel superior no matter what state I'm in. I'm sorry to say as that's smug but they do. Seeing these red pill guys go on about women being passed it and saggy at 22, mad feminists going on about how grizzly bears are less dangerous than men, actresses being attacked at every corner in misogynistic ways by these stupid sheep, like that black girl that's playing Juliet who right wingers keep saying is too ugly to play the role, or our very own Gina Carano who left wing idiots keep saying is too fat and ugly to play Xena, or of course the big one, these psycho Israel supporters on twitter who are now actually saying the recent atrocity in Rafah was faked (seriously, what was most disturbing was the guy who said that had humanitarian in his bio.) Again how can I not feel good about myself simply for not being any of these people LOL. However you have to calm it down a bit, as it's not good to get in such a superior state of mind. You don't want to get into the way of just looking down on people you have disagreements with as thankfully in the real world you don't run into morons and idiots like this as often (or if you do they have to hide it.) So yeah I think I'm going to try and avoid the temptation to feel good about myself next time I see an idiot come out with one of these stupid tribal takes to school them LOL. I think a lot of people should do the same as these assholes thrive on attention.

I would agree that nothing else out there is quite as bad as Reddit. The voting system allows bigoted mobs to silence inconvenient truths and cultivate brutally intolerant echo chambers to an extent that Twitter doesn't grant them the power to do. And yes, terminally online Reddit mods are the worst - by which I don't mean ordinary people who start a community based on one of their interests and happen to end up moderating it by default, but these sad c*nts with no lives who can somehow afford to spend 24 hours a day moderating fifteen different subs simultaneously in order to make the site unusable for anyone who disagrees with them politically. I still read Reddit occasionally, but I've been much happier since I stopped participating.

The thing that is honestly genuinely terrifying about Reddit is the way if they want to believe something they just will. It doesn't matter what evidence you say, they will still insist it's true. For instance in a thread about John Lennon when they were going on about how he was a wife beating piece of shit who killed his unborn child by beating Yoko until she had a miscarriage, I posted that actually it wasn't true and they started calling ME a wife beater. So I then shared an actual speaking interview with Yoko where she debunks all of it and one with Cynthia where she debunks it, and what did they do? Thumbed my comment down to the point where nobody could see it and kept calling him a wife beater. It's insane.

I don't do social media. I have messenger but that's about it. I can't be bothered with any of it. I hate the mob mentality of Reddit and the fact that they can just down vote you into oblivion whenever they feel like it.
