Not to get too personal, but my mum loves women (and has only ever dated women for the last ten years) and she can't stand all this pandering. It really gets on her nerves and even she thinks NuWho is shite now (she loved the Tennant era back in the day). People don't want to admit that it isn't just straight white men that have problems with this crappy excuse for a TV show. I saw a tweet from an American with a ton of pronoun cutesy shit in their bio saying "wtf is Doctor Who even about it's so unserious and dumb" with a clip of Jinkx. It had about 20k likes or something. So even the "target audience" for this stuff thinks it's shit.

A side issue, and this probably because I'm an old f*cker, (lol) but I don't think I'll ever get used to the legimate use of 'queer'. Such a horrible word that has only ever had a history (at least in the UK) of being used in a distinctly pejorative manner. I understand the concept of 'reclaiming' a word, but to me it's on a par with the 'N' word or something. It just makes me bristle. Agreed and I don't even understand what it means in its modern usage? Apparently it's not gay, it's someone whose sexuality doesn't fit into a binary, but has a preference for the same gender so........ bisexual then? There are so many sexualities that just fall under the bisexual label. How the f*ck is pansexual any different to bisexual for instance? All this "no this sexuality means you are attracted to both sexes, but only attracted to men emotionally" etc. It's all just bisexual. Ironically these people seem to have an old fashioned attitude towards bisexuals in that they think it has to be a complete 50/50 split men and women. It can be variable in all kinds of ways. That's like saying I'm a different sexuality because I prefer dark haired girls with big noses, unlike other guys who don't care one way or the other LOL. Also yes, queer is a disgusting, abusive term. It literally means creepy, unusual and sinister, hence why it was originally used to refer gay men in homophobic terms.

Out of pure self-interest, idiots like the article writer should realise they are playing with fire. Straight, white men are a sizeable part of the population. If the only message they ever see about themselves from "progressives" is about how much they are hated and their concerns and worries should be treated as a joke, where do they think these men are going to go? The raised armed knuckle-dragging community, that's where. Though the writer of this article would no doubt claim to hate fascists, she's doing everything she can to raise their numbers. In the age of increased male suicide rates, articles like this are no different, in their own way, to The Sun writing articles slagging off single mothers.

In the age of increased male suicide rates, articles like this are no different, in their own way, to The Sun writing articles slagging off single mothers. Completely agreed in all respects. The rate at which I have seen even the sci fi fandom become more hostile to women in the last ten years entirely as a result of divisive shit like this is seriously depressing. The amount of young men who would now consider themselves redpilled and come out with crap like Marxism is fundamentally anti men, "Jeremy Corbyn the guy whose politics would have actually aided working class men is our enemy because he's s soycuck" etc is the legacy of shit stirrers like this. Meanwhile your last point about this being no different to The Sun articles slagging off single mothers I especially agree with. They're exactly the same culture war pimps happy to ruin generations of young men and women's lives to get ahead. The shit that these people try and put in young men and young women's minds about hating each other seems absurd, but sadly young people today are more easily led by it. It's not because they are stupid, but because they are splintered and isolated thanks to many things, like too many forms of escapism, COVID, pub culture dying, cost of living meaning lots of people are forced to stay at home in their 30s (and therefore aren't going to want to go out and start a family when they don't have a house.) Sadly on top of that all of these c*nts on both sides of the political spectrum have made young people feel worthless for being lonely with their obsession with incels, or cat ladies or shaming virgin men, going on about women's eggs drying up etc. It's no wonder with this in mind that young men become ripe for right wingers to spit poison in their ears about how the reason they are lonely is actually because women are shallow bitches and cock teases who only go for bad boys, and at the same time young women are ripe for neo liberal charlatans to spit poison in their ear about how it's all men's fault and men just fundamentally hate women etc. Men and women should be encouraged to do more articles about what they like about each other in my opinion. Hence why I always go on about the Ducky's. (I really hope that phrase catches on.)

This is even more likely in an era in which young working-class men- already suffering from unprecedented mental health issues- currently have no viable political alternative in a system dominated by establishment technocrats and far-right provocateurs. Yet such people take absolutely no notice or interest in this.

That article really is rubbish. I note the description of Yaz and whatsername’s romance as ‘doomed’ as opposed to ‘boring’, ‘moribund’ or ‘forgettable’. And now they want to get Gatwa’s Rwandan heritage into it - why? Are they going to have him stop Braverman’s flights in a future episode?
I’m as sick as anyone by the rioting gammons in Britain in recent days, but the constant deluge of articles like hers doesn’t help. If ever a show insulted and patronised the more traditional sections of British society it’s Nu Who! It all plays into the narrative of institutions being eroded…

Does she think that a British show made in 1963 was made for people called Asyia Iftikhar at the time?

If ever a show insulted and patronised the more traditional sections of British society it’s Nu Who! It all plays into the narrative of institutions being eroded… Again it just makes me laugh that anyone could think ANYTHING about Jodie was groundbreaking. We've already been over the female hero angle being bollocks, but the idea that her and Yaz's queer romance was anything major is hilarious. Not to sound like a pervy, but we didn't even see them kiss. Okay yeah, any guy moaning about not seeing two cute girls kiss is going to look like a Richard Richard (especially if they have big noses which I'm fond of. Seriously imagine the nose on Jodie and Yaz's kid LOL. Don't forget Shobna Gulati is also Yaz's mother.) Still looking at it ironically from the point of view of LGBT representation, especially in sci fi and fantasy series what is new about it? Seriously? It was a complete non entity for years, then in like her last two episodes she said she liked Yaz and then they had Ice Cream together. (Which in hindsight is hilarious as it means they were sitting on Sutekh's face too making him the envy of Maxil.) Meanwhile some of these shows were made what 10, 20, 30 years before Jodie and Yaz? Some of them as part of the same franchise? My favourite character possibly of all time, the queen of Ducky's Sammy. PS this is largely a kids cartoon. Okay it's kind of like Batman TAS in that it's technically a kids show, but is made for a family audience in terms of its plots and characters, but yeah a kids show basically. I might this is forgetting all the gay characters in soaps or sitcoms like Will and Grace that are about gay characters, or what about music like Queen or Lady Gaga who explicitely has LGBT content in her videos. 10 years before Jodie even started, never mind her tepid at best romance with Yaz. I mean again how in any universe are Jodie and Yaz ground breaking? It's hilarious how deluded these people can be. Really the push for a female Doctor and a gay Doctor for that matter, not to mention the attack on the sci fi and fantasy genres from feminists always came over as this to me. Her having the number 1 jersey is a fantastic little touch. That said I do agree that having gay characters from now on might very well be more of a challenge than when I was a boy, thanks to things like Jodie era who that made out having LGBT or female or black characters means that you automatically have to. Replace any existing male characters regardless of how it works for the story. Undermine any existing male characters. Insult white men all the time. Make gender or identity politics their entire characterisation and the focus above all else. Again ironically people like us who don't mind, might even prefer female protagonists will have to start from scratch to show ours are not like that.

The sad thing is that I feel we were really making progress with regards to not only representation but how LGBT people could just feel safer and more comfy and tolerated, until all this got out of hand. Does ANYONE know what the difference is between bisexual, pansexual or queer? People seem to want a label just so they can debate what it is and then say they don’t like being labelled! And then you get people who keep changing it and wondering why people get bewildered - like Ellen Page coming out as gay and then immediately getting de-boobed and becoming a man - her wife wasn’t ready for that! Or the female soccer player who came out as trans AND non-binary - so how can she still play for the women’s team!? There’s a radio presenter on LBC who said she was annoyed at a party when a male guest, when she started talking in detail about being bi, said he didn’t mind what people’s sexualities were. So would it have been better if he’d said he didn’t like LGBT people and openly mocked her!? And I do feel the moaning about society being heteronormative is really ill-advised - as we mentioned in another thread - tolerance should always be there, but expectation for indulgence just threatens the more sensible majority.

To be fair to Elliot Page, it wasn't that they changed their identity. When he was a she, she identified as a lesbian, but then realised actually she was trans and changed into a man. She was an adult at the time, so it was fine for her to do that. Obviously yes I know she's not a biological man, but it seems to have saved Elliot's life so I don't care and am happy to call him he, though I admit it can sometimes be a bit difficult simply because we got so used to seeing him as she and there are so many movies with his old identity, but still Elliot doesn't seem to be the nasty type who gets people fired or anything. On the contrary I have heard Elliot's supposed to be a nice guy and I really respected him for going to that con with Gina Carano this year. So many little c*nts boycotted the con as soon as Gina was announced. Look at this, a petition that almost 1500 people signed not to let her go there. www.change.org/p/urge-vancouver-fan-expo-to-remove-gina-carano-from-the-2024-guest-line-upA few guests backed this and refused to go if the Nazi/transphobe was allowed as soon as she was announced like that absolute c*nt comic book writer Ian Boothby, see here. go.skimresources.com/?id=161425X1629030&isjs=1&jv=15.7.1&sref=https%3A%2F%2Fvancouversun.com%2Fentertainment%2Fcelebrity%2Fdespite-petition-gina-carano-still-set-to-appear-at-vancouver-fan-expo&url=https%3A%2F%2Ftwitter.com%2FIanBoothby%2Fstatus%2F1744811056088891548&xs=1&xtz=-60&xuuid=7043083276c73291317873b11807bf83&xjsf=other_click__auxclick%20%5B2%5DElliot however went and he and Gina got on fine. That meant a lot I think. He may not be a biological man, but Elliot Page is 12 times the man that Ian Boothby is. Above all else Elliot Page regardless of gender is a great actor. Loved him/her in everything I have ever seen them in. The Umbrella Academy is a really good series btw, I'd recommend it. It's basically just an X-Men variation, but it is quite fun. Elliot who was a former X-Man now plays basically the Big Fam role, of the one with the greatest powers who had her memory wiped and when it comes back she goes mad and they have to try and help her. Incidentally I also remember Elliot being the only good thing in that AWFUL James Gunn movie the Super. Seriously that is the absolute worst f*cking superhero film I've ever seen. Seeing Elliot Page rape Rainn Wilson by grabbing his dick until he cums that makes him vomit is not something I or indeed anyone else apart from apparently James Gunn needed to see. Yet he was made in charge of DC comics? I think DC is about to go through its Fitzroy Crowd period with that prick in charge.
