Just been mulling this over and wanted to see what you thought. For my incarnation I wanted to take him in a different direction in terms of interest. My Doctor has a naturalist streak and especially animals. He enjoys traveling the universe, finding rare and new animals, sketching and making biological field nots. He also has a mind towards bio-technology over machines unlike his other selves. Instead of the sonic screwdriver, this Doctor choses to be more hands on. He also has an almost supernatural rapore with beasts, allowing him to calm them with simple eye contact and a few calm words, not unlike the Master's hypnosis. In terms of weaknesses, his preference for biology makes it harder for him to recall his mechanical knowledge so he struggles with machines. He's also not a people person, his attitude is more likely to put people's backs up rather then welcome him. On the subject of his personality, I Invision him as being like Professor Challenger from the Lost World, at least in part. Pretentious, self-righteous, rude, without social conscience or inhibition, yet under this is a man of genuine passion, intelligent and surprising kindness. To his companions he is an infuriating teacher and surprisingly tender father figure. In terms of attire he prefers to dress as a Victorian explorer.

I'm being very unimaginative here, but my idea for a perfect Doctor is pretty much just "get Paul Darrow". Obviously I wouldn't want the Doctor to be a complete bastard like Avon, but that sternness and the slightly cruel dark humour he can bring to the part hold a huge appeal to me. And these are elements that already exist in the character (mainly in Hartnell and Tom). The Doctor should be aloof and resolute and amoral due to his encyclopedic knowledge and age, but also decent at heart and infinitely curious. Not too heroic, but willing to do the right thing. As for costumes, I'd keep it simple. The basic black suit worked fine for Hartnell and Troughton. Maybe I'd add an unusual vest as an affectation.
