1. THE SILURIANS 2. SPEARHEAD FROM SPACE 3. AMBASSADORS OF DEATH 4. INFERNO Whilst the entire season ranks amongst the top seasons of Dr Who; for me it's Silurians that's the underrated gem here. I've never understood why many think it's padded. There's actually very little repetition in it. The story develops both forwards and outwards over the 7 episodes without really dropping the pace. Personally, I think it's a masterpiece. Spearhead has to be second for me. One of the most frightening stories in Who's long history, let down only slightly by the actual Nestene and Pertwee's gurning face. But it's only a small scene, and doesn't detract that much from the rest of the story. I always used to put Inferno before Ambassadors, but a recent rewatch changed that. Yes, perhaps this one is a trifle padded, but personally I barely notice it. I love the space centre setting and the creepy astronauts that freaked me out as a kid. Inferno is superb of course but I think it's just the tiniest bit overrated. It's the parallel universe idea that makes it, but there's just a little bit too much repetition of noisy drilling and shouting. It almost gives me a headache by the end. Plus I think its S7 counterparts tend to get overlooked to some degree by its massive reputation. I expect precisely no-one to agree with me on this, but that's fine. I'm interested to see your rankings and any thoughts on this magnificent season.
