He's lampooning the fact that I posted this exact thread months earlier, and forgot about it. This is that earlier thread. Ah okay that explains it LOL. I've done that too. Ironically, I was puzzled as to where my reply was as well, then I realised it was a new thread, and I'd replied on the earlier one. Lol

I thought the revival was a real mixed bag. A few classics here and there, but overall the change in production style is... rough. Falk is much more cutesy and self-aware in his old age, the directors are less creative and there's a lot of padding. Plus, just visually it's not quite the same. The only thing I like is that it shows the world changing around Columbo. In the first episode, he's investigating a sumptuous 1960s apartment. In the last one, he's in a 2000s rave club. There's definitely a novelty factor to that. Revivals are rarely ever as good as an original run. This is just another case in point, IMO.

I saw things like Monk and Roger Moore's The Saint as a kid, but never Columbo. I knew what it was, though. Peter Falk in that coat is still iconic even to those that don't watch it.

True, but I do really like seeing him age, and even the shift in styles at least exposes the differences in making TV through the decades. Plus, the heart is still there. It does still feel like Columbo, just without the 70s cinema flair and consistent quality of its predecessor. Some fantastic modern Columbo episodes would include "Columbo Goes to College", "No Time to Die", "Agenda for Murder" and "Ashes to Ashes". Admittedly the last two are massively elevated by the return of Patrick McGoohan...

I've been binging this classic detective drama - on season 9 at the moment. Some of these films are absolute classics. My personal favourites are "Prescription: Murder", "Suitable for Framing", "Dagger of the Mind", "A Stitch in Crime", "Any Old Port in a Storm", "By Dawn's Early Light" and "Fade in to Murder". Columbo? Is that the man with the dirty mac who discovered America? Get the reference and I'll buy you a pint I thought it was Frank Spencers dog myself.
