I'm curious to know - out of all the actors who played the Doctor, who do you like the most as a person? Not as an actor or as a Doctor, but just based on interviews and stuff, who do you think is the coolest guy?
Personally, I'm leaning towards Davison. He actually pays attention to the storylines, and I love how sarcastic and self-deprecating he can be about his era. Plus, he wrote "The Five-ish Doctors", so clearly he has a good sense of humour. The mock rivalry between him and Janet Fielding is good fun.

Tom. The man just gives zero f*cks. A role model for us all in these insane times.

Probably Jon Pertwee. The April Walker thing was really shitty and does tarnish the Pertwee legacy a bit, but again to be fair to him it was entirely a creative decision, which people do make all the time. I mean are we going to call the Bond producers c*nts for getting rid of the Czech actor who played Blofeld, or Bruce Timm a dick for ditching the amazing Tim Curry as the Joker? Also back then DW would have just felt like another job. It was popular, but there were no DVDs, videos, repeats, fan conventions or anything to put it ahead of other popular series, so it wouldn't have felt like you were stopping someone from essentially getting a cushy life long gig and becoming part of well a huge community, and the actress was already on other popular series. Later he did at least feel bad about it for that reason and tried to apologise, though understandably April wasn't having it.
That aside however Pertwee was every bit as colourful as the third Doctor. He was a secret agent who worked with Christopher Lee to hunt Nazi war criminals and was a full blown war hero, who kept his exploits secret for his entire life. He also was a boxer, a daredevil, an explorer, a ladies man, and a total fancy pants who founded a club devoted to making sure people wore over the top tasteful clothes (alongside Peter Cushing) during the ration! He also was unbelievably arrogant, but mostly in a charming way. He knew what he wanted from his era in terms of well everything, the types of stories, even the monsters (though he was wrong about the Daleks, I did at least appreciate his honest and it was always hilarious watching him put down the plunger that fed him LOL.)
In spite of his arrogance however, he seemed to be one of the nicest actors in the role. He went out of his way to make sure everybody felt welcome, had no time for diva actors, and forged a great family, team atmosphere on set, so he was probably one of the best to work for.
After him it would be Tom, who as Iank says is just so larger than life. He might not have been the best to work with as he was legendarily arrogant, but still you can watch endless interviews with him and he's always hilarious.
I don't know anything about the others sadly, though Davison I agree is a funny guy. Not just for the Fivish Doctors. Check him out in Toast of London. That's an amazing comedy performance (and it's alongside another of my favourites Morgana Robinson. She told me on insta that was one of her favourite roles.)

I don't know anything about the others sadly Yeah, me neither, I'm just basing my opinions on what I've seen in interviews and such. McGann came off as hilariously oblivious on the TV Movie commentary. McCoy seemed to remember more than he did! I got the impression that McGann's fondness and understanding of the show is limited to his childhood memories of Hartnell. The rest of it is just a cushy gig.

McCoy has always seemed like a lovely guy. Very humble, very appreciative of his fans.

McCoy. I met him about eight years ago and he was just wonderful. He actually looks happier than I do in the photo I had with him!
If you had Tom Baker as a friend you wouldn't even need a television. He's just so fun to listen to:

Funnily enough, although he's my least favourite Doctor in the classic series, I find McCoy one of the most aimable and best out of them in interview. He's always very humble too.

A bit of a tie for me. McCoy is perhaps the nicest considering that he got a particularly high amount of flak. I respect Davo for the breadth of his post-Who work, but then also Pertwee for how he brought such a different take on the role than the principally comic one people expected.

I like Davison, but I think he's too harsh on his era and to be honest his comments about Black Orchid not being a proper DW story betrays his lack of knowledge about the genesis of the series. He's a great guy, though.
