What's the point of Kate? Usually if there's a character that's related to an older one they usually share certain similarities. She's such a generic character in comparison to the Brig. I honestly don't know? She's AWFUL. Her performance is for the most part wooden, except a few times when she gets angry, then her voice wobbles. She sounds like Joey Tribbiani doing his Betsy's been dead for 10 years. Come on that's exactly like how she delivers her serious lines, even in the video above with the "OPEN FIRE". It must be said though Jemma Redgrave is bit better in the audios, but to be honest even there whilst she's not terrible, she still tends to be overshadowed by the cast. The best UNIT Audio story is the one where Osgood finds the Dalek in the jungle, and I'm not just saying that, it is honestly a great use of the Daleks and Kate's role is reduced and you really don't notice that much. I will say though that I think the idea of Kate was a decent one. I quite like the idea of the Brig's daughter going into science, but the only problem is that's NEVER shown. It's mentioned in ONE episode and then she is just a bland, less charismatic version of the Brig. It would have been a smarter idea to condense Kate and Osgood into one character to be honest. Kept Bambera as the army girl, and had Ingrid be the Brig's sciency daughter who helped the Doctor. That could have been quite a cute story, with the Doctor having been an crazy uncle to her when he was Jon Pertwee much to the Brig's chagrin, that ended up influencing her to be a scientist. As it is she's just kind of....... there.

You don't need a character or a personality these days, it is enough to be a female in a position of authority. Well I for one think that you are just afraid of strong women personally. Why can't you be like Mr Tardis? A real man who trivialises grooming and sexual assault by accusing a guy of it because he fancies a 20 something actress, and does so over disagreements about a tv show, and whose knowledge of women in the genre extends to that empowering classic "50 Shades of Grey" also known as "wasn't that whole feminism thing a waste of time, and shouldn't you ladies go back to enjoying getting a jolly good smacked bottom?" Meanwhile looking at that clip there, oh dear god am I glad I didn't watch that episode. f*cking hell, I LOVE the Spice Girls, but that is just cringe inducing. The reason Uncle Deadly's Heat Magazine insult towards RTD caught on so quickly is exemplified by the clip. You can just imagine the tedious twonk reading it throughout both of his runs going "Ohhhhhhh let's do one about Anne Robinson and Big Brother because Heat Magazine says they are hot, and the Spice Girls, according to Heat Magazine 90s nostalgia is in."

You know what also f*cks me off about that scene? All these c*nts that tear into 80s who praising that shit fest. Look on tv tropes for instance, they go on about how chilling that scene is, yet will absolutely trash Time and the Rani for being too panto, or even things like Peter Davison's "eating a well prepared meal" line. Yeah that line is cringe and Time and the Rani at the time was sillier than most DW's but oh dear god!
How can ANYONE say that season 24 made the show too panto and turned DW into a joke when we have a villain who is such a gay stereotype, he makes Jasper in Family Guy, or the gay factory in the Simpsons look like nuanced, sympathetic, well observed depictions of your average gay man, dancing around to the Spice Girls and Goblins singing about eating babies, and a cuddly toy villain all prance around.
Why is new who not held to the same high standard as Classic Who? It's so f*cking infuriating. Still I do take solace in the fact that at the end of the day all the RTD cult and people like tv tropes do is show that they think Classic Who is the better show, as evidently they expect such high quality from it, a single silly scene like the Dalek killing itself in Death, or eating a well prepared meal from Earthshock can ruin the entire show, whilst an absolutely moronic performance from a bum actor like NPH is praised.

I've never found the "eating" line cringe. I think that whole speech from Davison is one of his best Doctor moments. Like him or not, Davison is totally in control in Earthshock. I do agree with everything else, though. Delta is cheesy panto rubbish because it includes a "wooo waaa waaa wooo" song at the end, but the Doctor breaking into song is "iconic" and "daring". As for the Toymaker scene, people just like sensory stuff. It isn't iconic at all. I actually thought the Master doing it in Power of the Doctor was more funny.

Why? Because the New Who audience consists of drooling Gen Z morons who wouldn't know quality if it came and hit them in the face and sellouts that - presuming they're not lobotomised - know full well this show has been gutted and shorn but are either too afraid they have no life at all without it or they've based their entire career around it - hello Big Finish - so will go along with any old shite with a big stupid grin on their faces as long as they still get paid.

anyway, intelligence has nothing to do with generational differences. Some people just don't recognise quality. It's how it's always been. Doctor Who just happens to be in populist hands at the moment.

I'm Gen Z too. That said, I'm completely out of touch with people my age. I don't know what they're listening to or what they're watching. Since kids at my college were mostly interested in talking in meme language rather than having a proper conversation I don't think I'm missing out on much.

Nobody knows her. Redgrave was an established character actress (same as Courtney in his day).
