No disrespect to them, but I don't think the Sea Devils are interesting enough for a spin off show. Maybe a two part story in another show, but not the whole thing. The Sea Devils returned a few years ago and the episode was considered a complete travesty. They've only been well served once and that was in their first story which even I don't think is all that great compared to The Silurians. I agree with you so much I'm writing this day down in my diary.

New rumours are that Kate, Mel and Shirley will be in the spin-off, but the lead is a returning Freema Agyeman as Martha Jones I love Freema and Martha might even be my favourite RTD1 companion based on a recent series 3 rewatch, but the last time she appeared on the show was 16 years ago. I seriously don't understand this desire to dredge up every little thing from the past. I don't wanna see these actors and actresses trotted out well past their prime in some saccharine nostalgia trip, it just makes me sad.

RTD thinks it's still the 2000s and his era is still the cultural zeitgeist. I mean, I get it, that's the thing with getting old and out of touch...

Martha is great, but surely Freema would prefer to be in something more worthwhile?

Given RTD's comments about working with Eve Myles again, I'm expecting Gwen back too

It worked fine in Classic Who. But I think the difference there is that RTD wants them to be relevant again as opposed to being retired heroes living their own lives separate from the world of Doctor Who. Like, if Martha came back in an episode or even a short arc just for the sake of it, I don't think it'd be that bad. Having Martha lead a new show just feels weird in 2024

Martha is great, but surely Freema would prefer to be in something more worthwhile? It's a bit sad if she's still dependent on handouts from Rusty the Degenerate. Isn't she on a big show in the US? Why on Earth would you slum it and come back to slop for that fat hack?

A youtuber is all boasting about being right and for disney plus to ignore whovians and keep airing new seasons and spinoffs.

Martha was my favourite new-who companion, until Amy arrived.
But if me, an elderly (kind of) long term fan of the show has zero interest in this concept... well.
1. It features a companion who left the show full time about, what? 14 years ago after a year... public recognition probably not going to factor here... 2. ...based on creatures whose greatest TV moment was their first story over 50 years ago... and whose latest until recently was one of the worst rated... 3. ..helmed by someone whose concept of original, creative story telling is to badly recycle his past glories, but with much more overt social commentary, and who has lost even more viewers than the great Chibbers managed.
Yeah. This has "win" written all over it...

A youtuber is all boasting about being right and for disney plus to ignore whovians and keep airing new seasons and spinoffs. That guy flip flops on Doctor Who and RTD constantly, one minute he's slagging the episodes off if he doesn't like them, and accusing RTD of being an indulgent fantasist, the next he's kissing the guy's arse for keeping the show on long past it's sell-by-date. His stance on the ratings not mattering is also hilarious given he cared a great deal about them in Jodie's era Having watched him for years, I can tell the man is in real need of therapy, the dude's a broken clock with a broken and infantile mind . He's right once or twice, but he is greatly misinformed 99.9% of times and lies about having sources in the BBC when the reality is he's a yankie-doodle dumbf*ck with limited intelligence who makes lucky guesses, or relies on hunches that have a good percentage of probability based on nothing but basic information and common sense. He also thinks he's super-important to the community when nobody relevant within the fandom at large (where even the biggest nobody is a somebody) knows or cares who he is. He's also close to his sixties and he spends all day playing video games trying to mingle with, and outrank, younger kids. He's super sus.

The spinoff was ordered the same time as the first 2 seasons so not sure what there is to crow about.
