Holy f*ck, I just made the mistake of checking out the gallifrey subreddit for the first time in months. I actively hate this fanbase. To these snivelling, sycophantic, brand-worshipping cultist c*nts, there is no greater sin than critical thinking.

Aside from the usual greatest hits; "all change is automatically good", "fans always hate the current showrunner", "anyone who criticises the show is far-right", there seemed to be near-universal praise for the bastardisation of Davros, save for one post unironically complaining that RTD didn't go far enough because the Daleks themselves are outdated and offensive to disabled people.

It's almost laughable how casually the SJW fans vacillate between the despicable gaslighting that is "Doctor Who has always been propaganda for identity politics" and "Classic Who is the most racist, sexist, bigoted show imaginable" depending on which argument they're in the middle of losing. In times of desperation, the same f*cker will sometimes even deploy both talking points in the same comment thread.

The latest bullshit line Fathead worshippers seem to think is some sort of "gotcha" response to any and all criticism of their idol, which they appear to be parotting from noted public intellectual Mr TURDIS, is something to the effect of "i tHoUgHt yOu sAiD ChIbNaLl rUiNeD ThE ShOw nOw yOu'rE SaYiNg iT'S RtD LoL WhIcH Is iT". Can you even imagine being such a f*cking midwit that the notion of a given outcome having more than one cause is too much for you wrap your pretty little head around?

If I were a writer and my creation had managed to attract such a disproportionate number of patently immoral, stupid fans, I would be agonising over where I went so catastrophically wrong. The Fitzroyers, on the other hand, just lap up the uncritical adulation and delight at having a mob of social media attack dogs at their disposal.

Someone said they hoped I died on Facebook when I merely said I wouldn't want Rose to return because I wasn't a big fan of her. He even started messaging the Facebook page I ran at the time to tell me to die again (I can't die more than once, fool!).

You are completely right. It's infuriating trying to talk to these people. Gallifrey Reddit f*cked me over meanwhile in that they disliked my comments to such an extent that I have so many I can't post on other reddit forums, as the automatic system assumes you're a troll if you have too many (as in other, normal forums, only trolls get dislikes) and deletes your comments right away. I can't post on Red Dwarf or Jurassic Park's reddits any more, both of which I loved (the Red Dwarf forums are in contrast such a laugh. I remember my first post saying "If the other users here do know me they'll know I'm the sort of rough and tumble, hardened marine type you do NOT want to mess with?" And one of them responded "My mate Burrunjor is incredibly, incredibly brave, and he's got just tons of girlfriends".  )

I'll do a bingo card for Gallifrey Reddit responses later as there really are so many arguments they whip up all of which have been debunked but they just alternate between them until you get bored. 

The thing that baffles me though is what is wrong with these middle aged fans who grew up with classic who? Are they really so insecure they'll want anything with the DW logo attached?

I'm going to make a habit of avoiding Tharries, Confused Adipose and Nerd Den on YT going forward as they won't be objective any longer in their reviews on account of being squeeing unapologetic RTD fanboys who have special privileges in the fandom. I mean, I'm a drooling unapologetic RTD fanboy, but as I said on my facebook, I think it's only right to keep one critical eye open for his new stories. I'll probably enjoy them, but I am more understanding and tolerable of other people having a good healthy grumble about them these days, they have points of view I don't consider but are always useful on a rewatch.

Here is a bingo card of how cultish new who fans respond to you on Gallifrey Reddit. Just to be clear though again this is not all new who fans. Claudia obviously doesn't respond like this and she is pretty much my favourite person in either old or new who fandom. Still yeah sadly this is how the sheep respond. 

"Doctor Who is all about change." (Apparently because there were a few changes in completely different circumstances that worked, you never have to justify any creative decision. Also this is said even with the exact same team from 2008 returning and actresses from the 80s coming back and a 99 year old man from the 60s coming back, and the Doctor turning back into an old incarnation.) 

"Doctor Who was always woke, look at the Daleks, it was left wing." Again never seeming to be able to grasp that there are different ways to bring politics into something and that indeed the political opinions expressed by the show could be different, even if they still claim to be left wing? By that logic a Nazi propaganda film and 1984 are the same as both are political stories. 

"Sydney Newman wanted a female Doctor, he knows more about it than you." The same man who only came up with the basic premise (that he most likely stole from Doctor Omega anyway) and contributed NOTHING else to it in terms of writing, and who also wanted to bin the Daleks, not hire Troughton because he hated him, and hadn't kept up to date with it since Troughtons second series and didn't even know who the Time Lords were?

"Be kind, why can't you people who love the Doctor, a character whose defining trait is his kindness understand that." Often said after calling you a sad f*ck that needs to get a life and mentally unhinged, or in extreme cases telling you to kill yourself. This will then be followed by a concern post saying "I wasn't insulting you I'm just worried about you." Also the creepy mantra of the Doctor being about kindness will often be debunked with the Doctor is gonna bust everything in your ass video, that they quickly downvote so no one can see it.

"You just don't understand how wonderfully, impossibly silly the Doctor and the show are, so it's not for you." Again ironically turning Who fandom into this little exclusive, creepy club that most normal people won't want to be a part of, like what they accused the show of becoming in the 1980s. 

"What's a Fitzroy Crowd, what's virtue signalling" THIS tactic that was favoured by Culfy annoys me more than any other. It's where they play dumb. Why they think that works I have no idea, but they'll deliberately pretend they don't understand phrases and arguments that they have read dozens of times before and know, because they think that will somehow make you look stupid? All it does is just drag out the argument for longer. 

"What about three sinkings of Atlantis." Again as though a minor continuity blip is the same as changing the entire characters identity. 

"You're scared of dirty, filthy girls being in your show aren't you. You're not used to non white men being the leads." Said about ANY kind of criticism of a female Doctor, or even of the Doctor getting off with female companions, because there can be no other arguments but those apparently. Even if you like me have written series starring black female heroes, ironically read by a former actress from the show, been in a relationship with a trans person, they'll still find a way to make out that you are still uncomfortable being around non white, non male people. 

"Hartnell got off with an Aztec girl which you don't seem to know about, showing you're not a true fan." Again often used to justify the romantic angle with Rose, completely overlooking the fact that was a comedy story, where he got engaged without realizing it and lets her down gently, and that Hartnell himself was adamant about the Doctor being asexual. 

"Classic Who died in the 80s showing that style couldn't work anymore. " Again completely overlooking the deliberate attempts to end it, and also a straw man as though we want the same cheap production values and aren't willing to have the show updated in other ways (including yes a trans companion.) Just again not completely change the entire character and spend more time rewriting lore and focusing more on soap opera and identity politics than sci fi. Also completely overlooking the fact that even with its problems, the 80s was still a more successful decade than either the 10s or the 20s or even the 00s technically. Davison's first season got higher viewers than any of Tennant's, also the 80s had one hiatus, the 2010s had two, three if you count Matt's last season spread out over 2 years, the 2020s had two, and the 80s produced 9 seasons, whilst the 2010s produced 7 and the 2020s in what will now be 5 years in 2024, will have produced just two. Also even stateside, in the 80s it got over 9 million for almost the entire decade until again the BBC deliberately sabotaged it by raising the prices of stories to the point where no one could buy, in the 2010s barely over 2, which only lasted a few years in Matt's time before dying despite promotion. 

"The show is exactly the same as it always was." Again often said after the previous argument. 

"Missy was the best Master by far, finally redeemed the character after the campiness of Simm, Roberts and Ainley. The only version that really understood the character." I don't need to explain how ridiculous this one was, do I? 

Again I wouldn't even mind that they had these opinions, if it wasn't for the fact that they don't want there to ever be anything like the original DW on tv in any way shape or form and want to actively rewrite its history, not just through their stupid factual articles, but now chopping up the original stories like that abomination last night.
