I mean, if the Fourth Doctor and Romana really had a wedding, would anyone have complained? You can do a believable and mature romance without having your characters indulge in constant make-out sessions and innuendo. Yes, they probably would have. I don't think Dr Who needs romance, period. At least not at the forefront like has been throughout most of NuWho. But unfortunately Davies turned it into a bloody soap opera. Which basically means family baggage and romancing it up. It's bad enough between companions, but getting the Doctor involved in emo slush is bloody awful in my book.

I like Christopher Eccleston, but even I'll concede at this point that it was the foot in the door that allowed all this bullshit to transpire. The first seven Doctors are simply not the same character as what we've had since 2005. The classic Doctors were Oxfordian gentlemen, classical heroes who you might see playing rugger and punting on the Thames in their spare time. Eccleston played a working class hero, and that just isn't the Doctor. In fairness, Tennant (despite his faux cockney), Smith and Capaldi all went back to that eternal student/professor archetype, but once Jodie came in the deal was sealed. Ncuti Gatwa by all accounts is an "emperor has no clothes" moment, where only those without politically charged predilections can see it for what it is. The Joe Schmoes at home know exactly what this is, and they've all turned off. The show has no organic reach beyond its inbuilt audience, kids aren't watching this and new fans aren't coming aboard.

I've been saying this for years. I'd include Tennant in the category though, little of the original in his lothario to me.

Sontaran Experiment.
Not a favourite of mine, but nice visually. The Dartmoor setting and the drab weather gives it quite a bit of atmosphere. The Sontaran is intimidating (even though the actor was sadly quite ill at the time) but the other guest actors are a bit meh. Tom also seems largely subdued here, but then that could be down to the injury he suffered making it.
This is easily the weakest Sontaran story of the classic series for me although it has some lovely bits in it.
6/10

That's surprising, Invasion of Time and Two Doctors are straight 0/10s for me I like The Invasion of Time. The Two Doctors is somewhat flat, but it was one of the first classic stories I ever saw so I have fond memories of it.

The Eleventh Hour
This was sooooooooo good. Absolutely destroys everything from Series 4. I don't think I've seen this in full since 2010 so it was nice to revisit it. It was even nicer that it was just as fresh and magical as it was back in 2010. Matt Smith gives one of the very best performances by anyone as the Doctor. He's helped by an equally dazzling Karen Gillan, a witty and clever script by Moffat (don't say that very often!) and some very energetic direction. Beautiful stuff.

As much as I love the classic debuts, I think only Spearhead (and maybe Power) really rivals this one in terms of catapulting the show into a brand new era in such a fun and exciting way.

I know it's not well-loved but I think Robot is a great regeneration story

Watched a bunch of Series 5 episodes:
The Beast Below
Average but entertaining. Liz Ten is great!
7/10
Victory of the Daleks
Watched this not so long ago, but wanted to give it another go. Didn't mind it as much this time if only because of the World War II elements and the fact that's a quick runaround.
7/10
Vampires of Venice
Gorgeous-looking story which I sadly lost interest in with about twenty minutes to go. Shame really.
6/10
Amy's Choice
Great idea that's very well executed. Toby Jones is the stand out performer here.
7.5/10
Vincent and the Doctor
A favourite in fandom, but not really my bag. It does have a lot of nice emotional moments to it, though.
6/10
The Lodger
Fairly good comedy episode which is set (but sadly not filmed) in my hometown. Can't beat a bit of football either!
7/10
Going to watch all of the two parters later on.

A campy performance by John Simm >>> shit CGI creations They're not always shit CGI creations though. Olivia Colman did a great job in her small role. I don't mind John Simm, but he's so much better in Series 3 for me.

I think the presentation of the Master works fine. He's meant to be sort of halfway between normal and Deadly Assassin. I like that he's delirious and that we get to see him vulnerable and in self-doubt. It's much better handled than Moff's similar attempt in Doctor Falls.
