He was wrong to do that. Powell's comments are vile too. I'm not sure why people are digging up nearly thirty year old drama involving a dead man, though. This place is starting to turn into that other forum.

Yes I read this many years ago in his biography. It's quite an incredible read. There are lots of crazy stories in it, but the people who come over the worst I'd say are Eric Saward, Jonathan Powell, and Gary Downie before JNT. Sophie Aldred is the only person with a nice word to say about Downie and I think that's because she's one of these nice girls who welcomes everybody.
I do wish I could read Downie's final interview though. He apparently went to town on the fans and Ian Levine in particular.

One person who does come over quite well is Gary Russell. He was JNT's biggest supporter and friend, and he even tried to help him in his later years, and tried to have JNT work with Big Finish, but sadly JNT had fallen out of love with DW at that point.
Russell also did NOT like Anthony Ainley. I'm not surprised that Ainley never did Big Finish. Russell said he was a wanker who always tried to make out he was hard done too.

This place is starting to turn into that other forum. Indeed. JNT was in the wrong there and it's hardly a new revelation so it's hardly surprising. That being said, saying this place is turning into said other forum despite this being the only case of it being brought up in recent months is a bit hyperbolic, is it not? It isn't just this instance. It's been a case of "let's see who can shit on JNT who the most" lately.

The whole point of this place is that it represents an eclectic range of opinions. All we've had are a few people sharing that they don't like 80s who or parts of it. Nothing controversial.

The whole point of this thread is obviously to tarnish JNT. Why is that the title but not the fact that Powell basically admitted he wanted JNT to die? After fans sent him to the bottle and an early grave I find it incredibly annoying and tasteless for people to dig up age old stories of this nature about him when he has no chance to defend himself and right his wrongs.

It's merely the title of the tweet with which the picture was posted. I took it from the "Craziest Moments in DW History" guy

thought it was merely an interesting bit of trivia. I have no personal anger against JNT or his era lol

It's just that I'm so tired of people trashing him at this point. Anyone can dislike him obviously, but in my past experiences it has come across as personal attacks.

That's a bit rich coming from Russell, a man so small and petty he not only tells fans to f**k off cause they didn't like a bunch of moronic Gen-zeers pissing all over the classic series in the magazine they forked out good money for every month, but hijacked a special celebratory Tom Baker magazine dedicated to finding good things about every one of his stories but selected City of Death just so he could tell everyone how dumb they are for liking it when he doesn't. Prize twat in my book.

On the Survival extras, Andrew Cartmel says JNT was offered Bergerac, but JNT said he'd only accept the job if he could make changes to it like taking it away from Jersey and firing the lead.
So that probably lines up with Powell believing he couldn't be trusted with another production. JNT was his own worst enemy.

From other sources I've heard it said it was more likely that JNT was just joking and Cartmel didn't get the sarcasm.
