Good. It deserves to be. I'm hoping this ends up fully tanking Davies' career and unwarranted reputation for good. The man's a snake.

I wouldn't celebrate until the cancellation is actually official. The difference between then and now is that there's lots of executive people who actually want to keep it on air

I wouldn't celebrate until the cancellation is actually official. The difference between then and now is that there's lots of executive people who actually want to keep it on air I'm not celebrating. To be fair Ncuti seems like a good guy. He tweeted a charity aid for Palestine, which given what a touchy subject that is in the industry is very brave of him. However it's more just the annoying thing of classic who was this obscure oddity like the Zoo Gang and New Who was like Friends, the biggest show on earth that I want to finally stamp out. Even on the Hive most people had that attitude of "well we couldn't have had a mainstream show like classic who as the GP are too stupid to lap up sci fi." It's this very attitude that has ironically strangled New Who's creativity, as they are too scared to move beyond the RTD era where it was apparently its most popular. For instance Victorian Clara was originally supposed to be the companion and she would have been f*cking awesome. However that was junked because "companions who aren't from modern day aren't relatable, and we must adhere to that formula because that's what made it popular in the RTD era." Even if all that were true it would be a terrible way to run DW to have it be beholden to such a huge formula, but again it's actually not. Classic Who had just as much mainstream appeal at its most popular, and therefore we have no more reason to stick to RTD's model than it.

If you look at internet search results for Doctor Who it peaked in the 2010s and even with these specials it is about as searched as it was in 2019.

How is it more popular today? Both New Who and Classic Who for the general public are of the past and therefore not mainstream any more. New Who in most people's minds was last a big deal in 2013. Since then it's been on sporadically with pitiful viewers every year. Both rely on their organised fandoms which are about equal these days as most people do seem to like both, with us being one of the few outliers, though even here, most of us still enjoy the bulk of New Who. BBC makes an Instagram post about Jon Pertwee or the Terileptils: 2k likes BBC makes an Instagram post about David Tennant or the Weeping Angels: 200k likes I can't post the images because this forum engine is dogshit but a post about that Doom's Day crap even got more likes than the Blu-Ray release of the Underwater Menace right next to it Even that lead that it had simply on account of being more recent that 50 year old tv has disappeared it would seem.

Maybe because Leela is a proper Doctor Who character and the one below is a cheesy parody of another cheesy parody from the Lenny Henry Show.
