I tried watching Planet of the Ood earlier and I had to turn it off. This series f*cked it all up for me. I've tried desperately to like it, but I can't. I knew it was shit at the time. I knew, even a kid, that it didn't match the previous series. It felt more smug. It's like Russell doubled down on the dumbest NuWho elements for his final full series.

He got very cross at people liking the serious stories from series 3 best and went full retard for his last in a fit of pique. "That'll show 'em!" He hasn't changed.

Sarah Lancashire is a bit of a MILF in Partners in Crime. She won "rear of the year" in 1993, too.
I actually think Planet of the Ood is worse. The best story of Series 4 is the Sontaran two parter, but that's more down to the return of both Martha and the Sontarans than the actual plot. It's all a bit a smug and Tennant gives one of his worst performances as the Doctor. I don't like his treatment of Mace or his hypocrisy about guns. Then there's Luke who is an insufferable little prat.

Planet of the Ood has Tim McInnerny turning into an Ood though.

Planet of the Ood has Tim McInnerny turning into an Ood though. Still not as memorable as him saying "bugger" in Blackadder.

Ood was one of the more tolerable ones of that execrable season I thought, though I can't muster the energy to actually defend any of it.

Ood was one of the more tolerable ones of that execrable season I thought, though I can't muster the energy to actually defend any of it. I agree. It’s undeniably flawed, but it’s certainly not as bad as the vacuous and execrable Partners in Crime. Every character in Partners- barring perhaps Wilf- is shallow, materialistic and loathsome, existing solely to further Davies’ bizarre trend of portraying the obese as uniformly thick and playing it for laughs (as continued from Voyage of the Damned). “I dumped him! I can do better than him now!” At least the villains in Planet of the Ood are believably colonial and exploitative (and reasonably well acted), even if the leads are still hamming it up beyond belief and laden with the occasional popcultural bollocks.

Sarah Lancashire is a bit of a MILF in Partners in Crime. She’s also a considerably better performer in Happy Valley, at least from what I’ve seen. You wouldn’t guess she was a good actress from the Sub-Season 24 pantomimic role she was given in “Partners”.

And although it's more of comedy/drama, she's good in Last Tango in Halifax as well.

Also, Damned,Crime, and Unicorn were my picks, but it was hard to narrow it down to just three.

I switched both off recently. As for the "I can do better now," scene, it's ghastly. Are we still supposed to care what happened to her? I just find something really off about Series 4. Every episode is tainted for me in one way or another.

To be perfectly honest, I don’t see a glaring difference between it and the other Tennant seasons. They all occupy a similar space for me- lots of crap, alongside some relative standouts I enjoyed more as a kid. The actual tone is broadly unchanged and blurs into one.

Series 2 has a few good episodes namely Fireplace, Tooth and Claw and parts of Rise, but the bad episodes are some of the worst ever produced. I don't even think Series 4's clangers are as shit as Series 2's.
