"CYBUHMEN! Old enemies of mine, now at work in London Town!" David Morrissey brings a ludicrous amount of charisma and gravitas to the part. RTD hit the nail on the head by accident when he wrote the Doctor as a Victorian gentleman lmao. also, THAT COSTUME

The irony is the only way RTD can write the Doctor properly is when he's a fake.

Haha I never thought about that. I mean I always thought David Morrissey was great, but yeah the fact that he is a Victorian gentleman in his frock coat with a platonic relationship with his companion, IS more Doctorish than Tennant in his modern clothes, his Jedward hair, pining after Rose Tylah at the time.

I love the gag that his screwdriver isn't sonic. It actually feels like something Tom would randomly do in a serial. He whips it out and Leela is like "Doctor, your screwdriver, it isn't sonic!"
And he'd be like "weeeell, one shouldn't always use the fine china".

The irony is the only way RTD can write the Doctor properly is when he's a fake. Seconded. If someone travelled back to 2003 (Around the time RTD was announced as reviving DW) and showed me a snippet of this without spoiling anything or context, I'd naturally automatically assume David Morrisey was the Doctor and maybe have some hope for NuWho circa 2008. Well, until they show me the giant Cyberman transformer that smashes up Victorian London and never gets mentioned again. Still, 2003 me would probably overlook that.

Excuse my pedantry, but the Eleventh Doctor uses the giant Cyberman as an example of the cracks in time causing temporal anomalies. It's in "Victory of the Daleks", when he learns that Amy doesn't remember the RTD-era Dalek invasions. I think it's something Russell specifically set up for Moffat too, because Jackson Lake talks about how the battle with the Cyber-King will be remembered for centuries to come, and the Doctor is momentarily confused.

RTD hit the nail on the head by accident when he wrote the Doctor as a Victorian gentleman lmao. also, THAT COSTUME 100% agree - the Doctor was always a Victorian/Edwardian gentlemen, in spirit at least, and David Morrissey looked and acted like a proper Doctor (certainly more than Tennant!). Though saying that, I'm still not a fan of that particular Christmas Special. Also - go watch the old BBC series 'Blackpool' (2004) - Morrissey's character is much funnier and more interesting than Tennant's.
