The BBC still hold the rights to the Blake's 7 characters introduced by Terry Nation, which includes Vila. Why not have Vila appear on Doctor Who for an easy ratings boost? The Blake's 7 fandom would go nuts, and nobody else would really be confused. It's not like "intergalactic thief" is a hard concept to explain. That's Vila's girlfriend? And Jon Pertwee was worried about April being his companion?
A B7/Doctor Who crossover is a nice idea, but ultimately I think the time has passed for it to be honest. Also I'm not sure I'd want B7 existing in the New Who universe either LOL.

That's Vila's girlfriend? And Jon Pertwee was worried about April being his companion? They had fantastic chemistry too, much more so than Vila and that lass from City at the Edge of the World. A B7/Doctor Who crossover is a nice idea, but ultimately I think the time has passed for it to be honest. Also I'm not sure I'd want B7 existing in the New Who universe either LOL. But that's part of why it would work so well. Blake's 7 is not well known, so it wouldn't be distracting for viewers. There's no real downside to it. But it could raise interest in the programme. Having another successful IP couldn't possibly hurt the BBC. You mean you don't want to see Vila running around Cardiff shouting "Molto bene!" and talking about that time he bonked River Song? Might even lead to an RTD-ran spinoff where it turns out the Federation was beaten offscreen, so Servalan's daughter travels back in time to conquer 2020s Earth. It's up to Vila, Lady Christina and an AI version of Avon (voiced by Dan Starkey) to save the day!
