I thought for fun, let's try and imagine that out of every Doctors era there are two stories adapted to the big screen. Come up with titles, casting choices and actors to play the roles.
GO
I'm going to say.
Troughton era.
One movie based on Tomb of the Cybermen and another on the Web of Fear. One called The Horror of the Cybermen, the other, the Terror of the Underground. Both are scary horror films unlike the Cushing era. Geoffrey Balydon as the Second Doctor. Susan Denberg as Victoria, Michael Gough as Cleeg, Brian Cox as Jamie. Victoria's backstory is changed. Her dad dies of a disease and she is left alone before she joins the Doctor and Jamie, and seeing how the Cybermen have conquered disease almost sways her into thinking they can be a force for good, until she sees how evil they are. The Doctor is more mysterious, though his human side is hinted at when it's said he knows Travers from his days at university.
Third Doctors era
Day of the Daleks and Carnival of Monsters. Third Doctor is........ Charlton Heston LOL. These movies are a misguided attempt to conquer the American market. They don't do as badly as you'd think given the star power of Heston, but most fans don't look on that casting that fondly haha.
Heston's Doctor is similar to his character in the Omega Man, whilst Jo Grant is played by Joanna Lumley and is much more sassy than sweet. Day of the Daleks setting is moved to America, with the final Dalek attack happening on the lawn of the White House and having the Daleks battle CIA agents. The Dalek future is more elaborate too and we see them fly for the first time (using stop motion, supplied by Ray Harryhausen.)
Carnival of Monsters has a better reputation, as it's stop motion effects are supplied by Ray Harryhausen who does a brilliant job with the Drashiggs one of whom has an elaborate monster fight with the Plesiosaurus. Also more of them escape in the finale into the city, with the final part of the movie having the Doctor and the others stop them.
This Doctor it is hinted is the same one as the previous Doctors as regeneration was a thing by this point and he mentions having fought the Daleks before.
Fourth Doctors era
Genesis of the Daleks and Pyramids of Mars both adapted for the big screen. Doctor is played by Vincent Price, his companion by Caroline Munro, and Davros is played by Donald Pleasance, whilst Sutekh is played by Christopher Lee.
The intro for the Genesis sees the Price Doctor rescue Caroline Munro from a planet being invaded by the Daleks, we then see an origin story for Davros being caught in an explosion, before cutting to the Doctor and Caroline Munro who are enjoying a holiday, before they are whisked away to a garden on Gallifrey where they are given the message. Here the Doctors time lord origins are revealed, and we see flashbacks of the first three Doctors as previous incarnations (with it being explained that when on earth he assumes a human alias.)
They are both sent on a mission to Skaro where it follows a similar plot except Caroline has more of a stake in wanting the Daleks wiped out because of what they did to her.
Pyramids of Mars setting is beefed up to a small, creepy village that has been overrun by Sutekh's forces, including demons, also for the bit in the future, the Doctor and Caroline are attacked by a hideous mutated creature.
Fifth Doctors era
Earthshock and Kinda. Fifth Doctor is played by Sam Neil. Kinda is released first with the snakes effects supplied by Jim Danforth, and the companion is played by Sigourney Weaver. It is the first hints of a romance between the Doctor and his companion. Earthshock ends where Sigourney dies.
Sixth Doctors era
Attack of the Cybermen
Even though it's not that popular, this is made to cash in on the success of Earthshock. It features a new Doctor played by Robert Englund who is a more sinister and untrustworthy Doctor. He is hunting the last of the Cybermen who have fled to earth, and he meets his new companion who from modern day and is trying to prove the existence of the Cybermen after her sister went missing. The companion is played by Elizabeth Shue.
Trial of a Timelord
A loose adaptation. This is an anthology movie, with three different stories. One about vampires, one about the Cybermen, and one about the Daleks, which is a dark future where they have destroyed Gallifrey and conquered the universe.
The valeyard (played by Steven Berkhoff) is a Doctor from the future who was captured and is now mind controlled by the Daleks. They want to use him to manipulate history so that they can create the bad future we saw earlier. (As it's the valeyard who not only captures the Doctors younger self, but also lets down Gallifrey's defences for the Daleks to invade.)
However the Doctor manages to defeat them, albeit at the cost of Shue's life, who is killed by the evil future Doctor. It ends on a somewhat unsure note as we are not sure if the Doctor has only postponed the bad future with a war between the Daleks and the Time Lords seeming inevitable.
This is the end of this DW series as after this point I can't see them doing any movies of the McCoy era. For the record I love the McCoy era and I think it would have been a huge hit if it had been given the chance, but sadly it wasn't.
