The silly articles have started: kotaku.com/doctor-who-series-14-ncuti-gatwa-barbie-15th-doctor-1850582187I think the majority of fandom will disagree with this. I mean, come on. Karen Gillan in a police uniform, Peri in a bikini, a raging pansexual in Captain Jack (I'm not saying I find that sexy, but others undoubtedly do),Rose in New Earth, Leela, Zoe's bum in that catsuit, even Tennant. The article is such nonsense.

Freema Agyeman. His point is invalid with just those two words alone. (Did we celebrate Freema Agyeman day this year LOL. I know a previous year's celebration got derailed because of Platypus gate LOL.)

You have to love how quickly the mainstream media fall in lockstep behind the assigned narrative. Only two years ago, this exact sentiment would have had the author branded a far-right, misogynist bigot who just can't stand to see women in leading roles. Now that there's a gay black actor in the role, it's suddenly within the bounds of politically correct discussion to acknowledge how dire Chibnall era was. It's all so tediously predictable.

"Historically, the Doctor’s looks are goofy or camp or stuffily British" - a sentence of such wrongness that it tells you all you need to know about this article - it's absolute shite.

Great to see you back. long time no see. BTW did you see Big Finish's latest release? I swear to god it is Jackie Tyler and River Song teaming up to take on....... The Krotons! You honestly can't parody Big Finish anymore. Also they revealed in an audio story that Sontarans are transgender. Yeah apparently if a Sontarans lives to a certain age then it morphs into a woman.

The Sontarans are warrior clones. They literally have no use for the concept of gender in their society.

The Sontarans are warrior clones. They literally have no use for the concept of gender in their society. You'd think so, but apparently no, they do turn into women, with those sontarans being shamed as freaks and cowards. A very clever "metaphor" for transphobia. Honestly it's embarrassing at this stage how down with the kids Big Finish tries to be. Why if Nick Briggs cares so much about their views being represented does he and the rest of the clique not relinquish control of DW? The generation he is trying to pander too's children will probably be middle aged before he and the Fitzroy Crowd's grip on the franchise is over LOL. Hell their grandkids grandkids will probably be middle aged. Even from beyond the grave. We'll have to pry it out of their cold dead hands.

FFS, so we're going to just conveniently forget one of the defining characteristics of the race from their very first appearance? They have no concept of gender because their battle crafted clones? You know the thing that makes Sontarans Sontarans! You know I had the misfortune a while back to come across a video by Den of Geek which is all about bemoaning the idea of Cannon. They're not saying it dosent completely matter but they bemoan how it prevents them telling the stories they want to tell in their own work. This shit with the Sontarans reminds me of that. To write such a story you have to throw out everything that was ever established about them by other writers and turn them into something they never were. Cannon is important because life has f*cking cannon. A good writer understands that fact and crafts it into their narrative as best they can. If cannon is an issue for you, then you are never going to write a work of real substance and only the most fauning of arse lickers will say otherwise.

The idea of canon not being important is insane. It's not just a nerd thing. It is a basic fact of storytelling. If these new who writers who are so creative want the same kind of freedom that the people who invented the show want, then go and invent their own series. The only reason you revive an old thing is if you think you can do more with its characters and story. Meanwhile in another shining example of the creativity of the Fitzroy Crowd, here is the latest release from Big Finish. I hope you are reading this Clockwork and bless us with another Dick Brigss, though to be honest I don't see what you can do? Sixth Doctor teams up with Jackie Tyler, Lady Christina and Harry Sullivan (recast of course). I mean you couldn't make this shit up.

I was almost tempted to watch the anniversary episodes and even the new series but honestly the more I try the more I look at the franchise, the more I just can't be arsed.
Ultraman Blazar starts next week. I am far better off watching something that I actually enjoy and rewards my interests, then wasting my time on a show with all the appeal of a turd pitt.

The idea of canon not being important is insane. It's not just a nerd thing. It is a basic fact of storytelling. Not necessarily. A lot of older movie franchises didn't employ canon at all. The Frankenstein and Dracula sequels were tied by nothing other than recurring actors in the same parts. And they often directly contradicted each other. The Evil of Frankenstein (third of the Peter Cushing series) completely rewrites the events of the first film. Mad Max: Fury Road magically reproduces Max's famous Interceptor, despite it blowing up two movies ago. And no, Fury Road is not a reboot. Miller himself said so. And if it was, why would Max have the specific battle injuries from the first and second films? Canon can be whatever the creators currently say it is. There's a strong precedent for it. However, the reason it used to work this way is because repeats weren't a thing. Doctor Who's continuity issues happened because a lot of the time, the writers hadn't even seen the past stories. Do you think Eric Saward sat through The Tenth Planet and Tomb of the Cybermen when he wrote Attack? No. Do you think Terrance Dicks or Robert Holmes rewatched all their old stuff, or just worked off hazy memories? That was then, however. This is now. Everything is available now so actively rewriting canon just makes you look like a dick. I'm only giving a pass to Miller because he's old and probably used to the way things were handled back then. But the new DW writers have no excuse. If they don't want to handle canon, they shouldn't engage with it at all. The show can do anything. Just ignore the stuff you don't like and leave it hanging for someone else to tackle, if they choose to. Fun fact: Wes Craven watched all the sequels to A Nightmare On Elm Street to consider what to do next with Freddy Krueger. And although New Nightmare stands alone as a film, it does take all of them into account.

Here it is Clockwork Ocean, Big Finish's latest release. How is this any different to Dick Briggs (ps anyone else think it's in bad taste that they have aged up Ian Marter as Harry when he died tragically young in real life?) I'm not having a go at the woman who wrote it to be clear. I'm sure she did a decent job with what she was given. It's Big Finish who gave her such a silly laundry list with these crossover stories. Meanwhile here's some more recent releases. That last one is River Song, Jackie Tyler vs the Krotons, in a story written by James Goss. (I really f*cking despise him. He not only ruined Scratchman by spitefully including Jodie, but he also did a story where Missy hacks up and tortures anybody that had a problem with her changing gender. f*cking c*nt.) Go on tell me what's the difference between that and these? The Matt Fitton Slot Machine Adventures: Volume #372
The *rolls dice* Fifth Doctor, accompanied by *rolls dice* Rhys from Torchwood and Dodo Chaplet face off against *rolls dice* the Kandyman and the Sensorites *rolls again* onboard Nerva. How exactly does River Song fit into all of this? Only £59.99 to find out, with a cheaper deal available for subscribers! How much cheaper? Subscribe to find out! Only £899.99 per month! It's a STEAL!
NuWho Definitely Happened: Volume #97
The Sixth Doctor, Astrid Peth, Sylvia Noble, and Ben Jackson team up with Ashildr, Missy, Jago & Litefoot, and the Patternoster Gang to resist the tyrrany of Madame Kovarian, who has formed an alliance with Sutekh and the Valeyard, none of which feels in any way forced or incongruous, and this story is in no way a desperate, futile attempt to fuse together two fundamentally different shows now that NuWho is on the brink of collapse. I mean, why would you even suggest such a thing?! How DARE you?!
