RoboCop 2. I mean, I'm not going to lie and say I absolutely love it now and all my criticisms of it were completely wrong. That's not the case at all, but I do like it a bit better than I used to. To be fair, the making of this movie was a shit show with Frank Miller writing new bits for it on the days they were filming it. There was also a change of director very late on as well. The script had to be rewritten due to Frank Miller's original idea being "unfilmable" leading to the end result being very uneven and half baked. In this respect, RoboCop 2 does hold up rather well for a movie that had such a hellish production process. The effects are outstanding and there's still a lot of meta ideas in there. The scene where RoboCop acts like a U rated RoboCop is a rather smart depiction of what would happen if RoboCop became politically correct and aimed towards children (which it ended up doing anyway with 3). The lack of Nancy Allen is annoying however and though Tom Noonan and his disciple Hob are cool villains, they lack the best qualities that made Clarence and his gang so memorable. Rosenman's score isn't too bad either. It isn't Poledouris, but I do find myself humming the theme tune for this movie more than the first. It's well directed as well with some nice camera shots and atmospheric and visually vibrant scenes (I quite like the arcade scene). I misjudged the film as being a harsh film devoid of all emotion, but it's actually a fairly entertaining sequel. It lacks the heart of the first, but beats it on the action front.
