Alongside Tory-turned Labour MP Christian Wakeford, Starmer’s waded in and outright accused him of being an antisemite in a letter to the right-wing Board of Deputies. Fingers crossed Waters sues the two of them when he gets the chance. I saw the concert in question and it’s obvious why the establishment are shitting themselves over it. It documents the war crimes of every US President since Nixon (which might explain the US government’s antipathy towards him), pays tribute to myriad victims of state power (George Floyd, Blair Peach, Shireen Abu Akleh, Sophie Scholl, Anne Frank) as documented in the video, and advocates for Julian Assange’s release. And all in the same breadth as it advocates Palestinian, Refugee, Trans and Yemeni Rights. Hardly a “glorification of fascism”. The idea that he “desecrates” Anne Frank’s memory is absurd. He unionises multiple victims of state power and recognises that each of them- from Frank to Akleh to Scholl- honourably challenged “The Powers that Be”. Waters is communicating this to a wide audience, which makes him “persona non grata” within the establishment celebrity class. |
