I don't know if anyone here has ever watched the Walking Dead, but it's just hilarious how much behind the scenes drama that show had.
Season 1 started with so much promise - an auteur filmmaker named Frank Darabont has a passion for the original comic book series, and adapts it into a prestige drama.
Then in season 2, the network orders twice as many episodes (from 6 to 13) without giving him an additional penny. Meaning that each season 2 episode has half the budget of every season 1 episode. When Darabont protests, they fire him and get their own lackey, Glen Mazzara, to run the show.
Then in season 3, Mazzara kills off too many beloved comic characters for shock value, so they have to fire him and get another lackey named Scott Gimple.
Cut to season 8, and Gimple decides that because the lead character's son is 18 now and has to be paid more, that he should be killed off from the show too. Even though the protagonist raising his son is the key theme of the original comic book. So the kid dies and that pisses off the actor playing the lead character (Andrew Lincoln), because they had f*cking 8 seasons of development for nothing. Obviously, Lincoln is kind of the biggest draw, so him leaving pisses off the network, and they fire Gimple.
Without Lincoln, the only season 1 character left to be the new male lead is Norman Reedus, who was only cast by Darabont on a whim to play a supporting character. That dude must be laughing to the bank.
Cut to season 11 (where the episode count has reached an idiotic 24). The network decides this isn't profitable enough anymore and cancels the series, forcing their latest lackey (Angela Kang) to desperately wrap everything up. Meanwhile, the network already announces spinoffs for every remaining popular character, so you'll know they'll be fine. The series finale is just setup for all of these f*cking spinoffs. Lincoln has the briefest cameo and we still have no idea what his character has been up to. You know, the character that the comic series is f*cking about.
Reedus's spinoff has him go to f*cking France for some reason. I guess because the actor likes it there.
