I prefer the RTD era because it was the era I remember most fondly and also because all of my favourite NuWho episodes are from it.
Series 5 is good, but there's not much else from the Moffat era I enjoy apart from the odd episode from Series 7 and one or two Capaldi stories.
Neither truly captured the feel of the classic series even if they occasionally tried.

If he's not careful RTD will alienate even the most ardent fans of his first era. Once they've gone you're pretty much on your own. The "new" fans who only care about idenity politics will move on to something else once everything dies down and they get bored.

I'm still prepared to give it a chance. Space Babies was a rough start admittedly. I loved Jinkx Monsoon in The Devil's Chord but not much else about the episode was too great. This week's episode isn't looking to be too great. But the series isn't over yet, I even gave Jodie one season before I judged her wholly.

I've still got mixed feelings on Smith, and tend to think that some people cling on to him a bit too much. Yes, he was definitely a breath of fresh air at first, especially after Dr Mockney McZany-Teary Doe Eyes, but it didn't last. Like most commenting on the Hive at the time, his obvious channelling of Pat Troughton's Doctor was a big step in the right direction. And whilst at the time I was disappointed that Moffat didn't cast someone a bit older, well zoom forward to Capaldi and see how well that worked out in the end! And thot's kind of my point; even Smith couldn't escape from becoming a Tennant-lite in the end, just like Capaldi. Because that's how the character was conceived from the beginning (even though Eccleston couldn't pull off the OTT whackiness and comedy that Davies clearly wanted) and ultimately that's how the character was written by and large. Even before S5 had finished, it was starting to happen to Smith. So yeah, he was better for a short while. And for a period of time he was the best that NuWho ever had. But it didn't last. S6 was largely appalling, as was what came after. That's my opinion anyway.
